Crossovers Nissan Qashqai Hyundai ix35. Choosing a used SUV: ASX, Qashqai or ix35? Mitsubishi ASX is an interesting crossover with high-quality performance

A face-to-face meeting of the second generation Kuga and the restyled ix35 once again confirmed that there are no comrades according to taste and color. Nevertheless, on the move, the Ford turned out to be stronger in terms of chassis tuning and dynamics, despite the engine having a noticeably smaller displacement. But when counting money in someone else's wallet, Hyundai is a slightly more advantageous offer. As a result, it’s a completely fair draw: who cares more about driving - the Ford Kuga, and who wants to save money - the Hyundai ix35.

Nissan Qashqai LE Sport 2.0 l (144 hp) CVT 4WD (RUB 1,336,000) and Hyundai ix35 Prime+Style package 2.0 l (150 hp) 6AT 4WD (RUB 1,354,900) )

Presented

The new Qashqai was born, so to speak, with a silver spoon in its mouth. His predecessor left him a familiar trading platform: during the seven years of release, it sold more than two million copies around the world, ensuring high demand for its successor even before the official premiere in the fall of 2013. The Qashqai 2 generally exceeded the public's expectations: a new design, dimensions increased to "standard" dimensions in today's class, a high level of equipment and new engines.

The bet is on front-wheel drive versions with small displacement engines: the base one is a 1.2 liter petrol turbo engine (116 hp) combined with a 5-speed manual transmission. Of the pair of turbodiesels with a volume of 1.5 and 1.6 liters (110 and 131 hp), the first is equipped with only a 6-speed manual gearbox, and the second can be equipped with a CVT or all-wheel drive. But they have this in Europe, and in our country, with a 1.2-liter gasoline and 1.6-liter turbodiesel, instead of the 1.5 dCi, a 2-liter naturally aspirated engine (144 hp) familiar from the old Qashqai is offered in combination with a CVT or 6-speed manual transmission, with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive (CVT only). There are differences in the suspension - front-wheel drive versions for the Old World are equipped with a torsion beam at the rear, while in Russia both 4x4 and 4x2 are equipped with a completely independent one. The new Qashqai is being assembled in Sunderland, England.

Unlike the “Japanese”, the ix35 paved the way to well-deserved success on its own. Introduced in 2010, it differs so much from its formal progenitor Tucson (especially in price) that they are definitely not considered direct “relatives”.

During last year's restyling, they worked on the optics and added options: in rich trim levels, a new multimedia system with a seven-inch screen and navigation, an electric power steering with three modes, a heated steering wheel and other equipment. To be fair, it is worth noting that in the USA and South Korea, the ix35, unlike the rest of the world, is sold under the name Tucson. It is produced in South Korea, China and Slovakia. The ix35 is supplied to the Russian market from the Slovak plant in Zilina.

Looked

The current Qashqai looks very worthy against the background of numerous competitors. With his specific appearance, he ceased to stand out from the crowd of his own kind and acquired new features that made it possible to clearly identify him in the flow. This is facilitated by the characteristic design of the radiator grille, front optics, stampings on the hood and sidewalls. The gloss is added by the complex shape of the rear lights, a spoiler on the fifth door and, of course, top-end 19-inch wheels shod in low-profile tires.

The salon pleases not only with fresh modern architecture, but also with materials: expensive-looking plastic, leather, chrome and even, as in our case, Alcantara. The glass roof combined with light gray seat upholstery adds light to the cabin.

The top version has a new Nissan Connect 2.0 multimedia system with a screen enlarged to seven inches. There is quite decent navigation and a unique all-round viewing system with four external cameras, already familiar from its predecessor. The parking brake is also modern - electromechanical. By the way, on the central tunnel there are a pair of cup holders, but not simple ones - they can either be cooled or heated through a closed nozzle, depending on the operating mode of the air conditioning system.

In a modern, cozy interior decorated with high-quality materials, the multimedia panel looks a little foreign.

True, the block of auxiliary rectangular buttons located on the terrace on the left of the dashboard is a clear hello from the recent past. In general, there are no complaints about the ergonomics: the set and range of adjustments will suit almost any driver, as will the shape of the seat designed for long trips. An absolute plus is that the trunk volume has increased, although not to gigantic proportions, and the second row has become more spacious than in the first generation car.

Last year's restyling clearly benefited the ix35, but even in its updated form it evokes less emotions compared to the Qashqai and looks heavier, despite the glass roof with an electric sunroof and 18-inch wheels. It’s hard to find fault with anything inside, but the materials are mostly hard, noticeably inferior in quality to the opponent.

The interior is slightly enlivened by a bright center console with a screen and controls for the multimedia system, two-tone interior trim and light-colored seat upholstery. Nevertheless, everything is with it - plastic, leather, metallic trim parts, a rich set of modern options. Among them is the proprietary FlexSteer - three-stage steering force adjustment. True, the button that switches modes is located in the “blind” zone on the dashboard to the left of the steering wheel in the same block with turning off ESP, activating the hill descent assistant and adjusting the instrument lighting. By the way, the dominant blue halo around the scales at night on a poorly lit road is annoying even at minimum brightness.

Questions arise regarding the location of other auxiliary controls. For example, the heated rear window button is a mirror image of the one that starts the engine. Both of them are integrated into the trim of the central vents located to the left and right of the multimedia system panel. The desire to do it beautifully is commendable, but it turned out a bit clumsy. However, this is a matter of taste.

The driver's seat is comfortable, but almost without the lateral support that the Qashqai has. The rear sofa is almost the same in size and seating options as in the Qashqai, but the ceiling is a couple of centimeters higher. But the advantage of the ix35 in trunk volume is overwhelming - about 160 liters. In addition, the loading height is smaller, and inside - from the floor to the roof and the distance from the back to the bumper is greater.

Let's go for a ride

One of the advantages of the first generation Qashqai is its driving performance. The heir has not lost his claims to a leading position among his peers. It has good dynamics, course stability and clear feedback on the steering wheel. The dynamic roll typical of this segment is reduced thanks to the less compliant suspension. But it is good on smooth asphalt. The car has become more critical of large irregularities, reacting to them more harshly, and speed bumps now have to be driven over in a “whisper.” And the variator remains an “automatic” for amateurs: when you press the gas pedal sharply, the connection between the strained howling engine and the wheels seems rubbery.

After the Qashqai, the “Korean” looks bland on the asphalt. The “automatic” honestly does the job assigned to it: without thinking twice, it drops a couple of gears down with a sharp increase in gas supply. But instead of a “shot,” you get more engine roar at high speeds than acceleration. The “Korean” is far from the transparency of the Qashqai steering. The ix35 suspension is more comfortable on small bumps, but you don’t want to go fast - the roll in corners bothers you. Hyundai handles unexpected bumps on the road worse, making the suspension thump louder.

Serious off-road driving is contraindicated for both. The 25 mm difference in ground clearance in favor of the Qashqai gives it a head start over the ix35, but not decisive - the suspension travel of the “Korean” is small, and that of the “Japanese” is even less. But when hanging diagonally on hard ground, both here and there, the electronics quickly transfer traction to the wheels with good traction in auto mode, plus both have forced center locking.

Asked the price

The basic version of the Qashqai already has a full set of safety systems: ABS, ESP, four airbags, curtains, Isofix. There is also an electrical package: all power windows, heated seats, central locking with remote control. Front-wheel drive, 1.2-liter turbo engine (115 hp) and 6-speed manual transmission for RUB 848,000. - a very tempting offer. There are seven configurations. In our case, the most expensive and only all-wheel drive is the LE Sport. There is a 2-liter petrol engine and a CVT. By the way, we can be proud: with such a power unit, borrowed from the first generation, the Qashqai is not sold in Europe. The “minced meat” (see configuration table) is the envy of many.

The ix35 base is a little more expensive - 889,900 rubles, but is equipped, in particular, with poorer safety systems: the main ones are only a couple of airbags and ABS. The drive is also front-wheel drive, 5-speed manual, but the minimum engine here is already 2-liter (150 hp). The top-end petrol version Prime Style Pack (see configuration table) - with the same engine, all-wheel drive and 6-speed automatic transmission.

What should you prefer? In our case, the difference is 18,900 rubles. compared to more than 1.3 million, it is insignificant. The level of equipment and popularity of these cars is also close. True, the Qashqai is a little “fresher”, but it does not have a sunroof... In general, there is no obvious advantage in the price/equipment ratio.

Bottom line

Andrey Kochetov, test group leader:

− The new is perceived more favorably than the already familiar. But it’s not just that: the Qashqai seemed livelier to me on the move, and it has more individuality in its design. But in practicality it is inferior to the ix35. Question of price? Here is the most difficult thing - the test cars are no longer in the price range where the size of the trunk is decisive, and the novelty of the model and the features of the “minced meat” are making their way to the fore. Here the “Japanese” will be stronger...

“An SUV is so cool because it gets stuck where others can’t get to,” that’s what car enthusiasts joke about among themselves. To prevent such humor from appearing “behind the wheel” of your jeep, you need to meticulously compare different models. And you can start right now. Let's compare two running SUVs. A “Japanese” with European ambitions and an impeccable “Korean”. A characteristic, obstinate handsome man and a stubborn fighter. Nissan Qashqai or Hyundai ix35 - let's find out which is better and why.

Before entering into a discussion about which car is more solid, more powerful, more fashionable and of better quality - ix35 or Qashqai - it is worth getting to know both models better.

Nissan Qashqai and Hyundai ix35 are SUVs, each of which has its own advantages

Mister X

Let's start with "X". A native of South Korea rolled off the Hyundai Motor Company factory assembly line. The prototype of the “35th” was the best-selling book on the global car market. Actually, Tucson is not just a relative - the ix35 was literally born on this platform.

Expensive idea

The model “matured” in the minds of designers and engineers for about three years, and finally, in 2009, the world saw a new crossover. Bringing the idea to life cost Hyundai more than two million bucks. In addition to full-time designers and constructors, they were involved in the project.

The car appeared on our market for free sale in 2012. The average cost is about 1 million rubles. Which, by the way, .

Wise look

Hyundai design is made using many lines and curves. Even the hood and roof are embossed.

But in general in the exterior one can feel power, experience, wisdom and at the same time a little aggression and a sporty accent. And the headlights of the “X” “look” at the onlookers with the gaze of a proud winner, ready to prove his superiority at any second.

In general, the car seems to be “blue blooded”. . The upholstery is made of high quality materials. A heating system for driver and passenger seats (front and rear) is installed.

Ergonomics are at a decent level. A number of options can be controlled remotely: the buttons are located on the steering wheel. This is done for convenience and so that the driver is not distracted from the road, for example.

What are the possibilities?

"X" is sold with two types of engines: two-liter. The gasoline engine produces 150 horsepower, and the diesel engine has a choice of 136 horsepower and 184 horsepower.

Hyundai is capable of accelerating to almost 200 kilometers. “X” eats an average of 11.4 liters in the city and about seven on the highway.

The car is equipped with a good luggage compartment (almost 600 liters capacity), which, if desired, can be increased by folding the rear sofa.

Standard kit

When purchasing a “35” you will receive the following basic set: six airbags, a headlight sensor, “hot” seats, lightweight 17-inch wheels, modern “music”, dynamic . Other joys, such as climate control, ESP, sunroof, 18-inch wheels or a video camera for broadcasting pictures from the street will already cost additional money.

We are wandering, today you and I are wandering...

Duel on the road

The duel “ix35 vs Qashqai” is moving. What do test drives show? There is a break in the pattern here... Contrary to expectations, “X” is not particularly quick. The car likes to think first and then accelerate... It happens that the Hyundai “slows down” even when you need to brake directly. Nissan has an advantage in this regard; it is more efficient and responsive.

Test drive a Hyundai IX35:

Cars also behave differently off-road. For example, on a hill, the Nissan literally takes off, and the Hyundai first “growls” and only then overcomes the obstacle.

Both of them “jump” over logs tolerably. Only here Nissan does it softly, and Hyundai is not shy and shakes passengers from the heart.

Test drive a Nissan Qashqai:

When cornering, both SUVs roll almost equally and quite noticeably. But, Qashqai reacts better to sharp commands from the driver and returns to its starting position faster.

By the way, along the way it becomes clear who is more “noisy”. It turns out that Hyundai accompanies the trip with characteristic sounds of operation, for example, a muffler.

It is interesting that the manufacturer gives a five-year warranty (150 thousand kilometers) for KIA, and three years or 100 thousand kilometers for Nissan.

Summing up

So, the duel “Nissan Qashqai vs Hyundai ix35” has come to an end. What happens? The Qashqai is smaller in size, cheaper and has excellent driving performance. Hyundai is a more masculine car, but it “limps” during acceleration, is noisy and costs an order of magnitude more.

But it cannot be said that “X” lost. It's just less dynamic. And by the way, Hyundai boasts a larger luggage compartment and a fashionable interior with expensive finishes. This is more of a car for those who like moderate, quiet driving. But Nissan will become the best friend for young lovers of sharper driving.

On Saturday, November 13, a public test drive of crossovers took place. Of the three declared cars, one did not show up, perhaps afraid of competition, and only two showed up for the test. Nissan Qashqai and Hyundai ix35 bravely competed in a comparative test drive to determine the best.

The first national comparative test drive of crossovers took place!

The lavishly presented new 2010 Nissan Qashqai and Hyundai ix35 were tested on the Feofania auto track in the following parameters: off-road (moderate), snake and elk test. Unfortunately, the previously announced Mitsubishi ASX could not be delivered, and there were no takers to take advantage of the tempting offer of the Niko Motors company to drive around their car dealership. We negotiated with Niko Motors for a long time, but we were never able to agree to have the car come to us for a test drive.

Now let’s try to answer the question: what is the difference between these two cars, which are so similar (in terms of technical characteristics)? We tested the Nissan Qashqai 2.0 4WD CVT and the Hyundai ix35 2.0 4WD AT.

Nissan Qashqai

pros

  • acceleration dynamics
  • a roof with a panoramic view
  • off-road driving
  • all-wheel drive operation
  • feeling of a passenger car with a higher ground clearance (than that of Hundai)
  • trunk organization
  • seat adjustment range

Minuses

  • visibility (small glass area)
  • small distance between the door and the rear seat for the rear passenger to exit
  • cabin size

Both cars look modern, but each in its own way. The Korean is the quintessence of modern fashion in design and oriental automotive traditions. The Japanese, on the contrary, is made in the classic line of the Nissan car line. Each one is interesting in its own way. I am sure that each of them will have both supporters and opponents. In this case, the Korean had a small ace up his sleeve - the car was painted in a wonderful snow-white color, which naturally emphasized his swift silhouette. Nissan's design has become more expressive and distinctive. Grown up, perhaps.

Most test drive participants liked the Hyundai ix35. And maybe, of course, as the female half of those present at the drive noted: “it’s just that white is always more beautiful,” or maybe the German specialists who developed all this luxury really turned out to be at their best. The fast, streamlined drop-shaped silhouette of the Hyundai ix35 looks very stylish! It should be noted that the sly squint of the new Nissan Qashqai is also pleasing to the eye and noticeably embellishes this model compared to the previous one. But unfortunately, and many agreed with this, the Hyundai design will quickly become outdated and lose relevance, while the Nissan design is more restrained and closer to the classic.

Salon and ergonomics

The interior and ergonomics of both are excellent. But here, too, everything is different - Nissan is conservative, and Hyundai, on the contrary, is on the cutting edge of fashion. Each of them is good in its own way. The Japanese will definitely appeal to fans of this brand - the interior is made in the best traditions of Nissan. Hyundai is something new in terms of design, but the ergonomics are not amazing. Everything about these cars is typical for this class. It is stupid to compare trunk capacity, because the dimensions of the cars are too different. But it is worth noting that the back row is convenient and comfortable for both. The quality of materials and workmanship is at a good level - nothing creaks, all parts fit well. In general, everything corresponds to the class of cars.

In general, the Hyundai ix35 interior is more spacious than that of the Nissan Qashqai and provides more space for both the driver and passengers. All parts of the car are beautifully and precisely fitted, and the glossy panel adds a luxurious feel. The relative cramped interior of the Nissan Qashqai is compensated by the panoramic roof; it simply cannot leave you indifferent. Hyundai ix35, in turn, offers two hatches, which will also please rear passengers. In terms of geometric parameters, Hyundai wins, but the advantage over Nissan is not crushing.

I would also like to note the Nissan Connect multimedia system, which includes an integrated rear view camera and a touch screen monitor. The Hyundai ix35 has a rear view camera located on the mirror, which is quite unusual for our drivers and, by all accounts, is more distracting than helpful. As for all sorts of compartments and niches for storing small items, they are almost the same in both cars, but in the Hyundai ix35 they are larger.

Hyundai ix35

pros

  • interior and trunk size
  • driving position
  • balanced on asphalt, when driving at high speed there is less roll and drift of the rear axle
  • design
  • plenty of space for rear passengers
  • good seats with lateral support

Minuses

  • plug-in all-wheel drive (no auto mode), no differential lock
  • All-wheel drive operation when hanging diagonally
  • feeling of thoughtfulness both when accelerating and when braking
  • sound insulation
  • long first gear

Engine, gearbox, drive

Here you will immediately feel the difference! Hyundai accelerates somewhat sluggishly and always leaves a feeling of a delayed reaction. And both during acceleration and during braking. Nissan with a CVT is much more fun to start and accelerate, and there were no problems with braking.

We started the starting race off-road. The first obstacle: entering a fairly steep hill. The Nissan Qashqai took off like a swallow without noticing the slightest problem. With the Hyundai ix35, the problem is not noticeable when accelerating, and those attentive experts who started driving before storming the mountain had to turn on the four-wheel drive and listen to the howl of the engine..

None of the cars dared to overcome the springboard - the suspension height was not enough, but when entering and exiting the Hyundai, slippage was very clearly audible, while the Nissan Qashqai moved absolutely smoothly up and down. When moving logs on a Hyundai ix35, passengers were shaken until their heads hit the roof. In the same place, the Nissan Qashqai pleased with its soft ride and comfort. When entering corners, both cars exhibited quite noticeable roll, especially at high speeds, but the Qashqai responded to steering turns more accurately and sharply.

It is quite difficult to determine the undisputed winner between these two cars. Both of them are good in their own way, but they are not without their shortcomings.

Hyundai pleases with its fresh and modern design. It offers a spacious, comfortable interior and a spacious trunk, but is disappointing with its limited all-wheel drive. The lack of an “auto” mode is a serious disadvantage, since searching for a button and manually turning on all-wheel drive is annoying. This is not a serious SUV, where every manipulation is weighed before overcoming an obstacle, but a city crossover in which you need to drive, for example, through slushy snow. But no, please switch your attention, find the button and turn on all-wheel drive. When hanging diagonally, the Hyundai all-wheel drive gives up and does not help, the suspended wheels spin helplessly. In normal operation this is absolutely not critical, but the “auto” mode is really not enough. Hyundai also has some minor problems with sound insulation. Everything seems to be at the level, but in the seats of the rear passengers you can clearly hear the operation of the rear suspension and muffler. Over long distances this will become tiring.

Nissan's design is traditionally restrained. There is no aggression or special pretentiousness. It has a very good ride and pleasantly pleases with the performance of the suspension. On the off-road section, the suspension worked very well, without discomfort for passengers. Perhaps I would like the interior to be a little larger, although many will find it cozy, but for people taller than average the space will not be enough. The trunk is not huge, but not small either, quite sufficient for normal everyday needs. There are no complaints about the all-wheel drive. Handling is excellent for a car with such ground clearance. There are no complaints about sound insulation - the Nissan Qashqai is doing well with this.

So we come to the main differences between these, in my opinion, very interesting cars. The driving performance of the Japanese and the Korean is their main difference! Nissan is a city car. Sharp steering, broken suspension, fairly quick transmission reactions. All this allows you to quickly and accurately move through the urban jungle. And the presence of all-wheel drive and decent ground clearance will eliminate the discomfort when parking or driving over speed bumps and tram tracks. Hyundai is the complete opposite. No, he's not bad. And its handling and ride are excellent. But he is not in the mood for an active drive. The suspension is soft, the steering is informative, but not sharp. And the box works slowly. Although on the road there is no feeling that the car is sluggish. There is no point in talking about off-road qualities, for one simple reason - these are road cars - crossovers, as it is fashionable to call them these days. They are designed for comfortable and safe movement around the city in all weather conditions. At the same time, they do not fail on light primer after rain or snowfall. But you shouldn’t expect outstanding offroad performance from them.

The result of this test is: The Japanese is a great youth car that allows you to have fun on the road. At the same time, it remains practical and comfortable in everyday life. The Korean is the reincarnation of the best-selling Tucson. Only now it is a bright and modern car that has not lost its practicality.

The text and photos do not convey the dynamism of the test drive, and the pros and cons expressed by different people resulted in a fairly large list. We bring to your attention a short video about the test drive. You will see how the cars were tested, and also hear first-hand opinions from specialists and folk experts who took part in the test.

High quality (108 MB)

Low quality (13 MB)

Today we will evaluate the consumer qualities of crossovers popular in Ukraine and. Having compared the market value of cars of the same years of manufacture on the secondary market, we found out an amazing thing: the less famous “Korean”, depending on the configuration and technical condition, is on average $2-5 thousand more expensive than the “Japanese”. Therefore, we decided to figure out what specific merits the ix35 sellers are demanding more money from its buyers for, and most importantly, is such an overpayment justified?

Nissan Qashqai and Hyundai ix35

“Japanese” provides wider choice: there is a 5-seater version with a standard wheelbase and overall length, and a 7-seater – Qashqai+2 with a 135 mm longer wheelbase and 211 mm in length. But all ix35s are only 5-seater. The “Korean” has more complaints about the condition of body parts, but first things first.

The “Japanese” cabin is somewhat more spacious in the shoulders, and there is a little more legroom here. At the same time, the ceiling is higher for the “Korean”. The Qashqai's ergonomics are worth criticizing: getting out is made difficult by the doorway narrowed at the bottom, which causes your foot to cling to the speaker on the door card and the carpet under the rear seat. But the 7-seater Qashqai+2, as well as its competitor, has no such problems. The quality of finishing is worth criticizing in both cars, and visibility is “lame” only in the ix35.

The “Korean” has a more spacious trunk, surpassing both versions of the “Japanese”. But the Qashqai is capable of transporting heavier luggage - its carrying capacity is higher than that of its rival (see photo).

Over time, the plastic trim in the ix35 can squeak, and the side view is eaten up by the strongly inclined front pillars. To overcome difficult areas, the center coupling can be locked forcibly using the Lock button.

The advantage of the “Korean” is that it has more headroom. In winter, comfort is enhanced by heated rear seats, available in almost all iX35.

Characteristics of Qashqai and ix35

The choice of power units for the ix35 is limited to two engines, while the Qashqai has a larger arsenal of engines. True, diesel versions of the “Japanese” were not officially imported to us and are noticeably less common than gasoline ones. What is curious: despite the greater liter power of the “Korean” engines, the dynamics of the versions similar to the “Japanese” are approximately the same. For example, a 2-liter petrol iх35 with all-wheel drive and automatic transmission accelerates to the first hundred in 11.2 seconds, and a similar version of the Qashqai with a CVT in 11.3 seconds. This is facilitated by the noticeably lower weight of the “Japanese”.

More serious problems can be caused by the Korean engines. As for the gearboxes, the mechanics in both models serve reliably, but there are complaints about automatic units: the ix35 has to do with the automatic transmission of cars from the first years of production, and the Qashqai has to do with the CVT (see “Results”).

Both crossovers were produced in two versions: basic (front-wheel drive) and expensive (all-wheel drive). The 4x4 transmission of the “Japanese” is more advanced - it has 3 operating modes: 2WD (front-wheel drive only), 4WD (all-wheel drive is connected automatically using an inter-axle clutch) and Lock - (the clutch is rigidly locked, and torque is distributed in a 50:50 ratio) . The all-wheel drive of the “Korean” is simpler: the rear wheels are connected using an inter-axle coupling automatically when the front end slips. It can also be locked forcibly using the Lock button (the torque is distributed in a 50:50 ratio). For both cars, the locking is disabled at speeds above 30 km/h.

Due to the 25 mm higher ground clearance, the Qashqai overcomes obstacles more confidently, although the all-terrain capabilities of both cars are similar - these are typical crossovers designed for more confident driving on unpaved, slippery and snowy roads, but they are not at all suitable for off-road driving.

The quality of the finish deserves criticism in the Qashqai: over time, the interior door handles and steering wheel upholstery wear out, and the trunk lid lock rattles. The all-wheel drive transmission is controlled by a convenient rotary dial.

Compared to its competitor, the Qashqai has more shoulder and legroom for rear passengers. Although there are complaints about ergonomics.

Disadvantages and features of Nissan Qashqai and Hyundai ix35

The suspensions of each of the models have their own characteristic weak points, so it is impossible to say for sure which of them has these components more durable. In the ix35, after a run of 40–50 thousand km, the front stabilizer struts become unusable, at 60 thousand km the floating silent blocks of the transverse arms become unusable, the rear springs often sag, and the mounting bolt for fixing the longitudinal link in the rear axle may break. The peculiarity of the operation of shock absorbers (front and rear): when there are temperature changes, they can knock and can withstand a mileage of 70–80 thousand km.

The Qashqai has other features: the support bearings of the front struts and the silent blocks of the front subframe are not very durable; the bushings of the front and rear stabilizers, as well as the front struts, can withstand 40–50 thousand km; wheel bearings can withstand up to 100 thousand km.

The remaining consumables for the front and rear suspensions of both models have a similar service life on average: 100–150 thousand km.

The electric power steering turned out to be more problematic in the “Korean”; comments regarding the braking system also apply only to this model.

Like

I do not like

In the ix35, I like the torque of the diesel engine and good fuel efficiency - in the city with an automatic transmission it’s quite possible to achieve 8.5 liters per 100 km, and on the highway - 6 liters. The knocked down suspension allows you to drive quite actively, almost like in a regular passenger car. At the same time, high ground clearance and all-wheel drive make it possible to confidently move on snowy or sandy roads and overcome small sections of muddy dirt road. However, long-term operating experience made it possible to identify the weak points of this car. So, I already had to repair the rear suspension, replace the rear view camera, rear brake light “toad” and turbine pressure sensor under warranty. Now there are problems with all-wheel drive. Due to the wide and strongly inclined A-pillars, side visibility is slightly blocked when maneuvering.

I do not like

I'm not a big fan of off-road driving, so I bought the more affordable front-wheel drive version. For me, the more important criterion is the ability to climb high curbs, as well as confidently drive on rough roads. Qashqai allows you to do all this without problems. I want to praise the variator - in city traffic jams you don’t have to bother constantly pulling the gearshift lever and pressing the clutch pedal. I already had to change some parts in the suspension: stabilizer rubber bands, front subframe and front strut bearings. There are other comments about the car: the trunk lid lock was knocking (it was fixed during warranty service), the chrome plating of the interior door handles was wearing off. Fuel consumption has increased recently - in the city it is about 11.5 liters per hundred, but before it was less. Summary of "Autocenter"

As we see, the stereotype “more expensive means better” does not always work. This is confirmed by our comparison today. We found out that the more expensive Hyundai iх35 is noticeably inferior in consumer qualities to the more affordable Nissan Qashqai. Therefore, we advise you to opt for the “Japanese”, while also saving quite justifiably.

Body and interior

+ There is more headroom and the floor of the gallery is flat. The trunk is larger than the Qashqai. Problems with the outside handle of the driver's door (before 2013). Possible fogging of the headlights, problems with the paint of red cars, rear parking sensors, rear view cameras. A note on visibility. Over time, the plastic in the cabin may begin to creak.
Power unit
+ Good dynamics and high efficiency of the diesel version. Problems with balancer shafts (petrol engines before 2013). Failure of the glow relay and turbine (turbodiesel) boost pressure sensor. Loss of tightness of the oil pan gasket (both engines).
Transmission
+ Availability of front- and all-wheel drive versions. In general, CPs are reliable. The oil supply pipe to the oil cooler falls off (automatic transmission of cars from the first years of production). Problems with the intermediate support of the right axle shaft (corrosion and then “eating” the splines). Lubricant leakage from the center coupling and failure of its electric motor. Short-lived outboard bearing of the propeller shaft (cars up to 2011).

Suspension

+ A well-balanced suspension ensures good ride quality. Fragility: front stabilizer struts, floating silent blocks of transverse arms, shock absorbers. The rear springs sag, the mounting bolt securing the longitudinal rod in the rear axle breaks.

Steering, brakes

+ By 80 thousand km, the rack bushing or gear-rack engagement wears out). Failure of the brake pedal switch (brake lights do not work, and for versions with keyless start, the engine does not start).

Ground clearance – 175 mm.
All-wheel drive - connected full (more often)
or front (less often)

or forced.

Nissan Qashqai

The Nissan Qashqai has more modifications, a wider choice of engines, and its 4x4 transmission is more advanced. This allows you to save fuel due to the single-drive mode. And higher ground clearance helps you confidently overcome obstacles on the road. And one more important advantage of the “Japanese”: in many ways its reliability is higher.

Body and interior

+ Availability of 5- and 7-seat versions. The sliding design of the second row seats increases functionality, and the adjustable backrests provide greater comfort (Qashqai+2). Good corrosion resistance and visibility. The gallery has a little more shoulder and legroom for rear passengers than the ix35. The flat floor of the gallery increases the convenience of landing. Notes on the ergonomics of the gallery of 5-seat versions: the thermal protection of the exhaust system may come off.
Power unit
+ In general, the engines are reliable and have no serious problems. The fuel pump may fail, the front engine cover may leak, the fuel level indicator may malfunction (gasoline units).
Transmission
+ Availability of front- and all-wheel drive modifications. Reliable mechanics and all-wheel drive transmission. Problems have been noted with the gearbox lever selector (failure of the position limit switch), and in rare cases, failure of the bearings (CVT variator).

Suspension

+ Greater ground clearance than its competitor makes it possible to more confidently overcome road obstacles. Small resource: support bearings of the front struts and silent blocks of the front subframe, bushings of the front and rear stabilizers, front and wheel bearing struts.

Steering, brakes

+ Reliable steering brakes. Longer service life of steering consumables (tips last for 150 thousand km versus 70–100 thousand km for a competitor). Steering shaft boot creaking (can be treated with aerosol lubricants).

Nissan Qashqai
Ground clearance – 205 mm.
All-wheel drive - connected full or front.

or forced.

Having compared the market value of cars of the same years of manufacture on the secondary market, we found out an amazing thing: a “Korean” is much more expensive than a “Japanese”! On average, the Hyundai iх35, depending on its configuration and technical condition, is valued at $2–5 thousand more than the Nissan Qashqai.

Recently, a test drive of two parquet SUVs, Nissan Qashqai and Hyundai ix35, was carried out, in conclusion, both the positive and negative aspects of each of them were highlighted. Both cars appeared at Russian car showrooms in 2010, each of them won a certain number of fans and opponents, who responded differently about the cars presented. The appearance of both cars was very attractive and interesting, which the group that tested these crossovers really liked, both outside and inside the cars were quite solid and comfortable for both the driver and passengers, in general, the interior and ergonomics of both cars were quite high, which undoubtedly pleased .

If we take the technical characteristics declared by the manufacturers, they will also be very similar for both candidates. According to experts who test drove cars, the Japanese Nissan Qashqai behaves more confidently on the road and is more passable in comparison with its opponent, but this is only the skeptical opinion of several people, which, in principle, can be refuted. The Hyundai ix35 has a very comfortable interior and design, but it has a too thoughtful box that does not allow you to feel more confident off-road; the Nissan Qashqai is completely the opposite; off-road it behaves just fine for its class, but in terms of comfort it is, of course, inferior. After off-road testing, it turned out that the Japanese car Nissan Qashqai completely wins in terms of performance and technical characteristics. This car showed excellent results in terms of acceleration and handling dynamics, all-wheel drive performance was also excellent.
