The first generation Logan was introduced back in the mid-2000s. As for the current generation, it was offered to the general public back in 2014. Design

Regarding the appearance, we can mention the front part, where in fact every detail was touched upon. The bumper is different thanks to a new air intake grille, where, by the way, more advanced anti-fog optics have been introduced. Which is interconnected by a chrome plate, with the edging of each lens.

The upper part, which corresponds and has optics and a radiator grille, will please you primarily with a classic style, but with a significant change. In addition to the external dimensions, the optics have also changed in their filling. The radiator grille also has a relatively new shape.

The silhouette is more modest, this is where the car’s commitment primarily to the budget segment is felt. There are no distinctive innovations, well, except for the increased dimensions. The wheel arches barely protrude beyond the body line.

The rear part boasts a better-thought-out optics structure; the strange lights from its predecessor have finally gone into oblivion. Now there are quite modern almost square lamps. Also, in view of this, it was necessary to somehow update the trunk lid, this was possible due to the appearance of a kind of spoiler. Otherwise, only the bumper can surprise, which even has a slight bias towards a sports theme.

As for color, the concern offers a significant list of shades, among which the most popular are black, red, blue, green, silver, gray, blue, yellow.

In terms of interior design, the second generation is a significant improvement over its predecessor. In addition to new, improved materials, the spirit of modern technology is already felt here, and this is observed in all areas.

The steering is the first thing you pay attention to when you get into the cabin; now there is a good-quality steering wheel with a pleasant braid, and the range of options has expanded, in addition to the instrument panel.

What is more interesting is the design of the torpedo in the central part. Firstly, the console itself is raised, and secondly, the order of placement of the instruments has been changed, in a more practical mode. A pair of deflectors dominates, below is a multimedia complex, with all the accompanying list of keys. But below it, they placed a good block for controlling the temperature and various climate control devices.

The seats please even seasoned drivers; this is not to say that the car claims to be in the budget class. In terms of its profile layout, backrest, and lateral support, the car could easily fit into the middle class.

The luggage compartment still represents above average volume, standing at 510 liters.

As already written above, in relation to the technical aspect, it is worth highlighting only the presence of more advanced electronic assistance systems for the braking system. The steering was also significantly modernized by reconfiguring the levers, resulting in better controllability. Two gearboxes will be offered, a classic manual with 5 gears, as well as a robotic automatic, designed for 4 gears.

The platform remains old; the only thing that distinguishes the car in this regard is the relatively retuned suspension. The main thing that has changed is the anti-roll bar.

The Romanian division of Renault, known for the Dacia brand, presented in Geneva the next new product of its updated Logan generation. This time, the five-seater station wagon Dacia Logan MCV 2013-2014 model year was revealed to the world. It is noteworthy that the manufacturer is positioning its new product as a budget family station wagon with increased capacity, but excellent fuel economy indicators can also attract commercial buyers.

And indeed it is. The Dacia Logan MCV station wagon has many advantages that can appeal to buyers who use the car as a workhorse: affordable price, modern design, economical engines, as well as a spacious trunk and interior. In a word, the Europeans were lucky, but the car may not reach Russia, since here it will become a direct competitor, which is, in fact, slightly modified. Considering that Renault has a hand in both cars, there are fears that AvtoVAZ’s European partners will not want to spoil the last “sales” column. However, we shouldn’t make any guesses just yet; it’s better to take a closer look at the new product itself.

In terms of appearance, the second generation of the Dacia Logan MCV station wagon has stepped forward, significantly approaching the ideals of modern auto design. The lines of the body share common features with the car, although the exterior is not without its own contours characteristic of Dacia. We also note that in general the appearance of the car is calm and not flashy, but at the same time very pleasant and not repulsive. The length of the new product has increased to 4490 mm, but the remaining dimensions have not yet been disclosed. A certain step towards “family” is visible on the roof, which is equipped with a special relief and durable roof rails for transporting large loads, so now it will be even easier to go on family trips than before. An additional plus for commercial use of the Dacia Logan MCV is hidden in the trunk, which is already roomy - 573 liters, but with the rear seat folded down it becomes a giant, capable of “swallowing” 1518 liters of cargo up to 2.7 meters long. In general, the breadth of possible uses of the new product is impressive, which means it will certainly be a success.

It's time to look into the showroom of the 2nd generation Dacia Logan MCV, where the buyer will be greeted with a very pleasant surprise in the form of very good quality interior finishing. For a budget station wagon, the Dacia Logan MCV really looks too solid, despite the widespread use of plastic and fabric upholstery. There are no uneven seams, large gaps or crookedly attached parts in the interior; everything is securely fastened, neatly screwed and firmly glued.
The Dacia Logan MCV is very spacious, and this is noticeable even in the second row of seats, where a tall passenger can comfortably accommodate. The front panel is laid out simply, without design excesses and in a conservative European spirit. In expensive trim levels there are chrome trims, and in initial versions the panel is completely plastic. The steering column is height adjustable, and the steering wheel itself is quite comfortable and is equipped with two additional control buttons.

Specifications. The new Dacia Logan MCV is equipped with four power units: two petrol and a diesel in two versions. All of them have previously been successfully tested on Renault Logan and Sandero.

The main one will be a turbocharged petrol unit with three cylinders with a total displacement of 0.9 liters. This motor is capable of producing 90 hp. power and 135 Nm of maximum torque. The main advantage of the main engine is the presence of a special eco-mode, which allows reducing fuel consumption by 10%. As a result, the new Dacia Logan MCV will consume only 5 liters of gasoline per 100 km.

The second petrol engine will be a naturally aspirated four-cylinder unit developing 75 hp. power. Its displacement is 1.2 liters, and the maximum torque reaches 110 Nm. This unit is equipped with two DOHC camshafts, but lacks an economical operating mode, which will apparently affect the final fuel consumption, which the manufacturer is in no hurry to report.

As for the diesel engine, in the Dacia Logan MCV 2013-2014 model year its role is assigned to a 1.5-liter turbocharged power unit capable of producing 90 hp. power and about 220 Nm of maximum torque. This unit is also equipped with an economical mode, which allows you to reduce average fuel consumption to 4 liters per 100 km in mixed driving mode. A simplified version of the Dacia Logan MCV 1.5 dCi engine, developing only 75 hp, will also be available on the European market. power.

The developers have not yet announced gearboxes for the new Dacia Logan MCV station wagon. Most likely, the car will be offered with the same gearbox options as the one on the basis of which the car was created. This means that the buyer will be offered a choice of either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic, but this is not official data yet.

The Romanian automaker is in no hurry to name the exact number of trim levels of the Dacia Logan II MCV and their names, postponing this information until the end of spring 2013. But in the meantime, some details of the basic equipment of the car in its initial configuration have become known. Thus, the Dacia Logan MCV station wagon will receive two front airbags, ABS and ESP systems, power steering, power windows for the front doors, heated rear windows, initial audio preparation and ISOFIX mounts for child seats. More expensive versions will have air conditioning, climate control, a Plug&Radio touchscreen multimedia system, a navigator, parking sensors, full power accessories, cruise control and other equipment.

Prices for the new Dacia Logan MCV not reported yet. The start of sales in Europe is scheduled for mid-summer 2013, but pre-orders for the car will start in April. As we have already noted, it is also not yet known when the second-generation Dacia Logan MCV station wagon will come to Russia and whether it will come to us at all.

All-terrain station wagons are not such a new segment, but at the moment one of its branches is gaining popularity - cars that allow you to get out into nature, but at the same time lack front-wheel drive and are positioned in the budget price segment. The demand for such single-volume cars in Europe is quite high, so it is not surprising that many manufacturers are striving to take their place in this niche.

One of these manufacturers is Renault, and not so long ago its subsidiary, Dacia, presented the Logan MSV with the Stepway prefix. Will the new product be able to become a class leader?

The new Dacia Logan MCV Stepway was presented to the public in March 2017, as part of the international auto exhibition in Geneva. The French single-volume car under the Romanian brand is positioned as an “off-road” station wagon and has received the corresponding external attributes.

Thus, the exterior of the Dacia Logan MSV with the Stepway prefix compared to the standard modification of the model is distinguished by increased ground clearance, a body kit and wheel arch linings made of black plastic, bumpers with pseudo-metallic linings, black roof rails, silver side-view mirror housings and a unique design of wheel rims. The main feature of the interior is the armchairs with combined color upholstery.

The list of equipment of the model is notable for the presence of:

The Dacia Logan MCV Stepway petrol range is represented by 0.9 and 1.0 liter units. The power of the first is 90 forces, the second is 73.

The low-power version is equipped exclusively with a five-speed manual transmission, while the 0.9-liter unit can also be coupled with a five-speed robotic gearbox.

The diesel range consists of 1.5 liter engines. Power output is 75 and 90 horsepower. Transmissions are mechanical or robotic in five stages.

I switched to Dacia Logan MSV Stepway from the regular Logan MSV. I needed a car with high ground clearance in order to sometimes get out into nature, but I had neither the desire nor the financial ability to switch to a crossover. Therefore, when Stepway entered the market, I did not think twice and chose it without hesitation.

Currently, the mileage on the odometer is 24 thousand kilometers. During this time, the Logan MSV Stepway managed to undergo maintenance at an official dealer, but apart from consumables, I did not change anything else in the car.

Now about impressions. I must admit that in the new car I can drive through country roads more confidently and ignore curbs altogether, because the ground clearance of the Logan MSV Stepway is 205 millimeters (versus 165 millimeters for the usual station wagon variation).

A one and a half liter diesel engine with an output of 90 horsepower pleased me not only with vigorous traction, but also with good efficiency - on average it consumed 5.5 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers.

I also liked the practical and beautiful upholstery of the seats. And, of course, one cannot fail to note the spacious interior and trunk.

The disadvantages include poor sound insulation of the wheel arches, weak headlights (in our time I consider H4 base lamps to be complete anarchism). Another complaint is the clarity of the gear shift of the manual transmission and the tight clutch pedal, but this is more of a nitpick...

Otherwise, the car makes me happy and I hope it lasts for a long time.

Test Drive

Exterior design

Dacia Logan MCV Stepway 2017-2018 model year looks very avant-garde. This station wagon is given this look by “all-terrain” attributes in the form of gray bumper linings, a body kit made of black plastic, black roof rails and a large mesh front air intake.

Short body overhangs coupled with high ground clearance make it possible to confidently storm even massive curbs, as well as move over bumpy terrain without fear of damaging body parts.

Interior

The interior is neatly assembled, but the quality of the finishing itself is not ideal - the plastic is hard and echoing, and the fabric on the seats is a bit rough. There are practically no complaints about the ergonomics, except for the audio system control keys, which are located on the steering column, and not on the steering wheel itself - when turning, you won’t be able to switch the musical composition to the next one.

The instrument panel is recessed into shallow wells that have a chrome trim. It is easy to read and does not tire your eyes at night due to the soft moonlight.

As for the center console, its architecture is archaic, especially regarding the climate control unit in the form of three rotating washers. However, the color screen of the multimedia and entertainment complex can save the situation.

It fits well into the interior, giving it a touch of respectability. In addition, the screen is capable of projecting images from the rearview camera and indications from the navigation system.

The driver's seat has good lateral support, however, the seating geometry can be overshadowed by the lack of a pronounced lumbar area - when traveling long distances, this can lead to pain in the lower back.

It will be a bit cramped for three people on the second row sofa, but two passengers will feel extremely at ease even with a height of 185 centimeters - there will be enough free space in all directions. The trunk volume of 537 liters pleases with the correct shape of the cargo compartment and high loading height.

Rideability

The 0.9-liter gasoline engine pulls well at medium speeds, but at low speeds it absolutely lacks torque, so it’s very difficult to start from low speeds and without vibration.

The manual transmission combines well with the power unit due to the optimally selected transmission range, but it irritates with the amplitude of the lever strokes and not always clear gear shifts.

The steering wheel, surprisingly, has fairly accurate reactions and is quite informative. But when going through turns, you shouldn’t have any special illusions ̶ the high center of mass of the car provokes high body rolls and diagonal swing, so you need to be careful with the speed on the arc.

The suspension can feel a bit harsh, especially over small potholes. But its high energy intensity allows you to drive over bumps at a fairly high speed without fear of damaging the shock absorber struts.

Results: the new Dacia Logan MCV Stepway will surely appeal to residents of rural areas. This station wagon has good geometric cross-country ability and will not shy away from deep ruts or snowdrifts. And on the asphalt, the car’s habits are understandable and predictable. Add to this a spacious interior, rich equipment and we get the best option for a single-volume car for different occasions.

The Dacia/Renault management does not hide the fact that they have high hopes for the new product. However, their expectations are quite justified, since the car turned out to be really interesting not only in terms of appearance and set of characteristics, but also in terms of cost. The 2017 Dacia Logan MCV Stepway differs from the regular version by the presence of an off-road plastic body kit, as well as increased ground clearance, which is especially important for practical outdoor enthusiasts.

We must pay tribute to the designers who created the appearance of the MCV Stepway, which, despite its relatively low cost, has a truly stylish and attractive appearance. This is largely facilitated by the front part of the car, which received original headlight lamps and a spectacular false radiator grille, which is in perfect harmony with the front bumper, into which a large air intake and a pair of foglights are carefully built.

In profile, the off-road MCV differs from the basic version in the presence of chrome side mirrors, a plastic body kit, roof rails and “Stepway” inscriptions located on the front doors.


The rear part of the station wagon did not disappoint either, where the manufacturer placed an impressively sized tailgate and side lights. The picture is complemented by a neat rear bumper, which received a special plastic trim painted in silver.

  1. 0.9-liter three-cylinder 90-horsepower gasoline engine, equipped with turbocharging and a Start-Stop system. The car's suspension has not undergone significant changes and has the omnivorous nature characteristic of all generations of Logan. This means that even when driving over medium and large uneven roads, the car will not greatly annoy the fifth points of its passengers. The steering is electrically powered and is highly informative. Effective deceleration is achieved thanks to disc brakes installed on all four wheels of the station wagon.

Taking all this into account, one can only hope that in the near future the car will reach the domestic market.

The presentation of the Dacia/Renault Logan MSV Stepway crossover station wagon will take place at the annual Geneva Motor Show in early spring 2017. The car is completely ready for the premiere, and the manufacturers have already published some information about the car.

Start of sales and cost of Dacia Logan MCV Stepway 2017-2018

It will be possible to purchase the crossover station wagon in European countries in the spring of this year, immediately after the premiere in Deneva. The cost of the new product will be 11.9 thousand euros for the basic configuration.
