The second in the range of Kia Optima engines is the “four” 2.4 GDI with an aluminum block, direct injection and a variable intake timing system. The output of the unit is 188 hp, torque – 241 Nm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

At the top of the engine line is the 2.0 T-GDI turbo unit of the Theta II series, which is located under the hood of the most powerful modification of the car - the Kia Optima GT. Peak output 245 hp. and a maximum torque of 350 Nm, maintained in the range of 1400-4000 rpm, allow the sports version of the sedan to accelerate to “hundreds” in 7.6 seconds. Similar dynamics are also provided by a 6-speed automatic transmission, which differs from automatic transmissions designed for naturally aspirated 2.0 and 2.4 liter engines. In this case, a box with the factory index A6LF2 is used, which better handles high traction.

The front suspension of the Kia Optima is MacPherson strut mounted on a subframe, the rear is independent on wishbones with a stabilizer bar. The steering is equipped with an electric power steering, mounted on a rack in the GT version (in other modifications it is installed on the steering column).

In 2000, such a new product as the Kia Optima was presented to the attention of motorists. The technical characteristics of this model immediately made it clear that this is a good, dynamic car that has clear prospects for the future. Transformed "Optima"

The third generation began production in 2010. However, it is not the very first models that are interesting, but those that were restyled at the end of 2013. True, they reached Russia only at the beginning of 2014. The design is the same as Kia connoisseurs love. Sporty, moderately aggressive and even elegant. Expressive front optics, modern foglights, brand new wheels and smooth curves of the body - this is how you can characterize the appearance of the new product.

What are the technical characteristics of this Kia Optima? The kind that can impress. Thanks to the 2-liter base engine producing 150 hp, this car can accelerate to 210 km/h. And it reaches “hundreds” in 9.5 seconds. The choice is either “automatic” or “mechanical”, however, each transmission has 6 speeds. By the way, this engine consumes relatively little fuel. In mixed mode, 100 kilometers consume 7-7.6 liters of gasoline.

Flagship motor

What was mentioned above is not all that the Kia Optima released in 2014 can boast of. The technical characteristics of the flagship engine, also installed under the hood of the new product, are more impressive. The engine power is 180 hp and the volume is 2.4 liters. True, there is no choice here - “automatic” or “mechanics”. Only 6-automatic transmission is offered. But this car has more consumption. About 11.5 liters in the city and 8 in mixed mode.

Not long ago, the new Kia Optima went on sale. Its technical characteristics have become significantly better, as has its appearance and interior.

The car is based on a chassis taken from Model 7. And under the hood they installed an engine that had not previously been equipped with other models. This is a turbocharged engine with a power of 245 horsepower. It is capable of accelerating the car to “hundreds” in just 7.4 seconds. And its maximum speed is 240 km/h. It is not surprising that this is now the most popular Kia Optima.

The technical characteristics of other engines are less impressive. There is also an option with a 2-liter engine with 150 and 163 hp, as well as a version with a 141 hp unit. under the hood.

Other updates

The Kia Optima also has a new body. And to be more precise, it’s simply greatly changed. The appearance remained attractive, but the recognizable “tiger nose” disappeared. The designers modernized everything - the bumper, trunk lid, radiator grille and optics. For example, LED headlights were installed. And the windows took on a different shape. Although a considerable number of details remain from its predecessor.

It is worth noting that the appearance of the new product largely depends on its modification. The model with a gasoline engine will receive an aggressive aerodynamic body kit under the hood. And the front bumper will be decorated with massive air intakes. The hybrid model will have a special one that can be raised.

What about the configuration? The new Kia Optima, the price of which starts at 1,100,000 rubles, received cameras with all-round visibility, smart navigation, cruise and an active braking system. A wireless mobile charging system has also appeared in the cabin. And the car was also equipped with a modern, electronically controlled suspension. This is one of the highlights that the Kia Optima can boast of. The test drive showed that thanks to such a suspension it is possible to make the chassis both sporty and softer and more comfortable.

Finally, it’s worth briefly talking about the equipment that the new Kia Optima can boast of. The price of the car depends on it.

So, a full-size alloy spare tire, LED running lights, as well as an electric drive and folding rear-view mirrors are offered as basic equipment. In terms of safety, the car is equipped with front and side airbags, as well as curtains. The base also includes a stability control system, VSM, HAC and ESS. Also installed inside is a multifunctional steering wheel, a light sensor, cruise control, electric windows and even a luggage net.

The cheapest car, as mentioned above, costs 1,100,000 rubles. This is the Classic package. There is also “Comfort” for 1,230,000 rubles, “Lux” (1,350,000 rubles), “Prestige” (1,510,000 rubles), GT-line (1,620,000 rubles) and GT (1,750,000 rubles .).

The good news is that all of the listed configurations are available to Russian buyers. It is best, of course, to buy the latter if possible. Because it is in it that the notorious 245-horsepower engine is offered.

In this article we will look at Kia Optima engines that were installed on cars of different generations. There are 4 modifications of Optima, the first 2 also had the name Magentis and the designations MS (2000-2005) and MG (2005-2010). The 3rd and 4th generations are already known as Optima, modifications TF (2010-1015) and JF (2015-present). We will pay most attention to engines of the third and fourth generations of cars, since they are the most modern and interesting in terms of technology and performance.

Kia Optima 2016 sedan

Optima engines of the first (MS) generation (2000 - 2005)

Magentis MS is the first car created jointly by two companies, Hyundai and Kia, and shares the same platform as the Sonata. This modification used three types of engines:

  • inline four-cylinder 2.0 liter
  • V6 volume 2.5
  • V6 volume 2.6 liters

Engine Kia Magentis MS (2000-2005)

These engines developed power of 135, 168 and 184 hp, respectively. The most popular of them was the two-liter version due to its efficiency and unpretentiousness. It had multipoint fuel injection, 16 overhead valves with two camshafts. Torque was at 180/4600 Nm/rpm.

V6 engines also had a DOHC design and 4 valves per cylinder. They were significantly superior to four-cylinder versions in terms of power, which affected the dynamics of the almost two-ton car. The fuel consumption of such units was not impressive in terms of efficiency, but was well within reasonable limits for a car with a similar weight.

All units were distinguished by good reliability and maintainability; due to the simplicity of their design, the quality of the materials used and workmanship, such motors are capable of traveling hundreds of kilometers without serious problems.

MG generation engines (2005-2010)

In the next modification of the Kia Optima, another very interesting option was added to the 2.0 - 2.7 liter gasoline engines - a 2.0 diesel engine with a capacity of 140 horsepower.

The new diesel engine performed well; it had excellent traction and efficiency, which helped it compete with its gasoline counterparts.

Torque was 305/1800-2500 Nm/rev. min. These power units show good survivability; even now, some diesel Magentis remain in good condition, despite their impressive age. This, of course, is provided by using high-quality consumables and timely maintenance. Diesel engines are more demanding on the quality of fuels and lubricants, consumables and frequency of replacement. Therefore, Magentis with such units required more attention from their owners.

Engine Kia Magentis MG 2005-2010

They also had some problems related to the failure of the particulate filter. Their decisions, as a rule, boiled down to removing the latter. The cost of the work was high due to the need to install a new control program. But after a competently carried out procedure, the owner of a diesel Magentis could receive a bonus in the form of an increase in power by 40 horsepower.

Third generation Optima engines (2010-2015)

This modification of the Korean sedan was produced at factories in South Korea, the USA, Kazakhstan, Russia, Malaysia and China. The Kia Optima TF engine line was the Theta 2 family, which included several naturally aspirated and turbo engines ranging from 2 to 2.4 liters. and a 1.7 liter CRDi turbo diesel. Petrol variants replaced the Theta series, which consisted of two engines 2.0 G4KA and 2.4 G4KC and was developed by Mitsubishi specialists. The new Theta 2 engines are four-cylinder in-line injection units with 4 valves per cylinder, an aluminum cylinder block, AI-95 fuel, Euro 4 environmental class. The service life of such engines, according to the manufacturer, is 250 thousand kilometers. They have many deep modifications regarding the CVVT gas distribution system, intake and exhaust receivers, attachments, software and more.

Turbocharged engine Kia Optima 2010-2015

The main modification with a volume of 2.0 turned out to be quite successful; good traction, low noise levels and reliability made it possible to widely use the engine on many models:

Power was 150-165 hp. /6500 rpm Torque - 196 Nm/4800 rpm. This option was soon joined by a 2.4 liter engine. and a power of 178 hp. as well as 2.4 GDI with a power of 200 hp. The two-liter G4KD / 4B11 engine lends itself well to tuning. In Russia, its power is reduced to 150 hp. to reduce transport tax, so with the help of firmware it can be easily restored to the previous level. In general, the tuning potential for this engine is more than 200 hp.

One of the features is the absence of hydraulic compensators, so after 90 - 100 thousand kilometers the Kia valves may need to be adjusted.
