Replacing ignition contacts of a VAZ 2106. Instructions for replacing the ignition switch. Mechanical failures of the ignition switch

It happens that when replacing a lock, you get tangled in the wires, this is not a problem.
Lock 2101-02-03-06 has the following conclusions:
1NT - Black double wire
30 - Pink wire
15 - Blue with black stripe, double
30/1 - Brown wire
50 - Red (purple) wire

Boris (Eugene) The ignition switch of the VAZ 2107 has a socket and it is more convenient to change the lock there

output 50 goes to the starter
and 1NT and 15 go to devices

30+1NT are devices
and 30+50 is the starter

Kenshi (Abeke)  Boris, VAZ 2101 connected everything according to the diagram, the starter does not start... The headlight dimensions only work. how to check which wire is coming from the starter? and all the rest. Boris (Eugene)  Kenshi, see the diagram 01 Leonid (Toinette)  having worked out everything with the diagram and the light does not light up and the dimensions do not start....what could be the reason? and putting other contacts Neil (Sergei)  Boris, Hello, can you please tell me that the VAZ 21213 Niva has a connection similar to the VAZ 2107? Boris (Eugene)  Neil, here is 21213

Neil (Sergei)  Thank you. Lyonya (Bolus)  fused 15 - Blue with a black stripe, double wire, tell me where it should connect
I have it going under the hood, and there it is disconnected from everything Alexander (Ehrengard)  Boris, which wire goes to the ignition switch for the starter, and which one from the ignition switch to the starter... Boris (Eugene)  Alexander, look a little higher, in the same place everything is written Alexander (Ehrengard)  Boris, in lock 03, it doesn’t say Boris (Eugene)  Alexander, locks 03 and 07 are identical in pinout
Constant plus has output 30/1 and 30
output 50 goes to the starter
and 1NT and 15 go to devices
it turns out 30/1 +15 is the ignition
30+1NT are devices
and 30+50 is the starter Alexander (Ehrengard)  Boris, thanks Alexander (Ehrengard)  Boris, so it turns out 30 with strategy, and 50 for the starter, right? Boris (Eugene)  Alexander, on the contrary, pin 30 is always a constant +12, but 50 is the wire that goes from the lock to the starter, and when you turn the key, pin 30 will send +12 to pin 50 and the starter will turn on Boris (Eugene) Alexander, in the group discussions there is a topic of diagrams, there are convenient separate diagrams

Alexander (Ehrengard)  Hello, are there any electricians who could tell me what to connect where or sketch out a diagram to make it start with a button and a toggle switch...
And so I put the key in, turned it on, turned the toggle switch on, pressed the button and it started, and when I turned it off, I just turned the toggle switch off...
I looked at someone who has a relay, I have it near the ignition switch, but I have a big button...
I’ll post what diagrams I have and a photo of the button and toggle switch... I did everything according to the third scheme...
Help me please...

DEVICE AND FUNCTIONS OF THE VAZ 2106 IGNITION COIL IN THE CAR IGNITION SYSTEM.
The VAZ 2106 ignition system kit includes:

ignition coil VAZ 2106; distributor; candles; low and high voltage wires and lock. As an addition, the system includes a VAZ ignition relay.

Components of the ignition system of a VAZ 2106 car Previously, a R-125B brand distributor was installed on the car. This unit was mounted on the machine together with a carburetor marked 2103. The distributor had a special mechanical corrector in its design, and there was no vacuum regulator. The VAZ 2106 is equipped with spark plugs belonging to the A17DV type or spark plugs that have similar technical characteristics. The design of the automotive system uses a VK347 type lock, equipped with an anti-theft device. The car uses a B117-A type ignition coil, which has an open magnetic circuit and is oil-filled and sealed. The VAZ 2106 ignition is contact-based, but it is worth noting that sometimes there is also a contactless version of the system. The contact system is considered simpler in its design. VAZ contact ignition requires regular maintenance and monitoring of the condition of the contacts.

Ignition distributor VAZ 2106 Distributor is designed to interrupt low-voltage currents in the primary winding and distribute high-voltage pulses across spark plugs. The distributor breaker consists of a cam with four protrusions and a stand on which contacts are located that open during rotation. At the upper end of the cam bushing, a support strip of the advance regulator with weights is soldered. A vacuum regulator is attached to the side of the distributor. The design of the distributor provides for the installation of an interference suppression resistor. The operation of the contactless system is based on the use of an electrical impulse distribution sensor. The sensor operates using the Hall effect. It consists of a semiconductor wafer, a special chip and a magnet.

The design of the ignition coil and the principle of its operation The car coil is a high-voltage pulse transformer. A thin wire of the secondary winding is wound around the core of the device. It contains 30 thousand turns. In accordance with the device diagram, a primary winding consisting of thick wire is located on top of the secondary winding. Both windings are connected to the car battery at one of their ends. The second end of the primary winding is connected to the distributor. The common connection point of the coil windings is connected to the voltage switch. The core plays the role of a magnetic field amplifier. At the moment the circuit breaks, a high voltage is induced in the secondary winding, which is supplied through a wire to the spark plug for breakdown and formation of a spark.

Checking the coil of the VAZ 2106 ignition system When checking the functionality of the coil, the first thing to do is check the voltage supply to it. For this purpose, the voltage supply is turned on and then it is measured between terminal B+ and ground. This value is 12 V. If voltage is not supplied to the coil, then the reason for its absence should be sought in the lock. If normal voltage is present and there is no spark on the spark plugs, it is necessary to measure the resistance of the windings. To do this, the contacts of the measuring device are applied to two side terminals. For the primary winding, the resistance value should be 3-4 ohms. The resistance of the secondary winding is within 7-9 Ohms. The coil cannot be checked for the presence of a spark by leaning the high-voltage wire against the motor body, since in this case the gap becomes so large that the increased resistance causes breakdown of the winding of the unit, and this leads to failure.

Malfunctions of the ignition system can be caused by the failure of a component such as a distributor. Several types of problems can occur in this unit that can damage the contact ignition of the VAZ 2106.

Checking the vehicle distributor If the coil is in good working order, then the problem in the operation of the system is due to the fact that the distributor, which has a VAZ contact ignition, is faulty. To check, you need to remove the cover and inspect it. All contacts and contact angle must be free of damage and cracks. After inspecting the cover, you need to check the distributor slider. Sometimes cracks appear on this element as a result of wear, which leads to breakdowns to ground. After inspecting the slider, the breaker contacts are inspected, if necessary, they are cleaned, and the gap between them is checked. It is imperative to inspect the capacitor, since most often it is the one that is faulty, which is the reason for the failure of the car system. If there is no charge accumulation after applying voltage, the capacitor must be replaced. When checking the ignition of the VAZ 2106, we must not forget about the spark plugs. The fact is that the normal operation of the system depends on the gap between the spark plug electrodes. The spark plug gap should be 0.4-0.8 mm. An increased gap leads to heating of the coil and, as a result, possible breakdown of its windings. The VAZ ignition relay is designed to protect the system from sudden changes in voltage at the moments of switching on and off. The VAZ ignition relay protects the contacts of the lock and the breaker from burning, thereby ensuring the long service life of these components.

The contacts in the VAZ ignition relay open almost instantly, which prevents the formation of sparks during operation. The advantage that the VAZ ignition relay has over other elements of the system is the ease of its replacement in case of failure. When repairing a car, it is better to have a special manual on hand; as a rule, in addition to textual explanations, they contain photographs of the car’s components, which makes repairs easier.

The mechanical-electric ignition switch of the VAZ 2106 is represented by a body part with a locking device, an anti-theft mechanism and an electrical contact group. The schematic diagram of the sixth generation VAZ ignition switch is located in the figure below and the marked symbols are numbered as follows:

  1. Locking console.
  2. Hull part.
  3. Contacts disk.
  4. Contact sleeve.
  5. Block.
  6. a – extensive cutout of the contact group.

To connect the ignition switch, you need to know its location in the cabin. This element of the system is located under the instrument panel on the steering column shaft bracket.

Replacing the ignition switch

An unscheduled replacement of the VAZ 2106 ignition switch is carried out when fatal faults are detected, such as dysfunction of the anti-theft complex or defects in the mechanical part of the product. The most convenient option for replacing the ignition switch is a complete reinstallation of this element of the system. However, the contact group must be replaced by removing the spring-loaded hoop-shaped stopper and installing the updated part. Also, regardless of other technological operations, the ignition switch cylinder is replaced, which is dismantled on the removed product.

To remove the ignition switch of a VAZ 2106, you need to prepare a set of locksmith tools, a tool with a thin round tip (awl) and a tester or multimeter. The procedure for dismantling and installing the ignition switch:

  1. Remove the protective casing of the electrical wiring under the steering wheel, having first removed the mounting bracket.
  2. Remove the ignition switch and disable the anti-theft function by placing the key in the “0” position.
  3. Press the fixing element with a thin screwdriver through the technological opening in the fastener.
  4. Remove the ignition switch from the mounting.
  5. Mark with a felt-tip pen or, if the car enthusiast relies on his memory, memorize the order of connecting the wires to the outputs and contacts of the locking device.
  6. Disconnect the wiring from the element.
  7. Test the correct connection of the contact group for different positions of the ignition key using the ignition switch pinout located below.
  8. The general circuit of the ignition switch is designed so that the potential difference from the battery and the generator unit is supplied to connectors “30” and “30/1”. The “INT” output is intended for integrating an audio system or other gadgets.
  9. When checking the functionality of the anti-theft mechanism, the locking console must move to extension if the ignition key is fixed in position “III” (parking position) and be removed from the locking device.
  10. When the key position is changed to position “0”, the locking console “hides” in the opening of the body part. The ignition key must be removed exclusively in position “III”.
  11. When replacing ignition switch contacts, it is necessary to lift the retaining ring with an awl or similar device through the technological opening and remove the group of contacts. When installing a contact group, it must be installed so that outputs “15” and “30” occupy a position from the locking console. This will allow the protrusion in the group of contacts to be aligned with the housing groove of the ignition switch, which will ensure their unhindered interaction.
  12. The group of contacts can be removed without removing the ignition switch, freeing the steering column from the protective cover. True, the installation of this element will be fraught with great difficulties.
  13. Installation of the ignition switch is carried out in the opposite order.

There are malfunctions of the VAZ 2106 ignition switch that occur in the electrical part of the product. This is, as a rule, a burnout of a group of product contacts associated with an unstable electrical wiring connection. If the ignition switch is jammed, this is due to mechanical deformation of the key element.

Pinout of the ignition switch "six"

Shown here is the pinout of the VAZ 2106 ignition switch, which will help you correctly use the functionality of this element of the vehicle’s power system.

Numbering of position ZZ

Name of contacts
products

Power System Circuits Involved

“0” – off. 30 and 30/1 Ignition system circuits are engaged in emergency mode
“I” – ignition

Stern and front light of the optical system, windshield wiper and washer element, heating component of the cooling system

BSZ (on-board ignition system), initiation of the generator unit, instrument sensors of the control panel, sound and light signals of the turn signals

“II” – starter

Stern and front light of the optical system, windshield wiper and washer element, heating component of the vehicle cooling system

Starter chain

“III” – parking position Stern and front light of the optical system, windshield wiper and washer element, heating component of the cooling system

Using this pinout, you can easily carry out any routine repairs yourself.

Before you begin any troubleshooting work on your car, you should prepare a certain set of tools. In the case of removing the ignition switch on the “six” we will need:

  • screwdrivers - flat and Phillips;
  • awl.

However, you can do without the latter. An awl can be perfectly replaced by, for example, a miniature screwdriver, or a thin long nail with a cross-section of no more than 2 millimeters. One point should also be noted. Before disassembling the ignition switch, it is recommended to disconnect the negative terminal from the battery. Many may argue that a voltage of 12 volts is practically safe for humans.

However, do not forget that in the process of work you may well short-circuit the wires and damage any electrical equipment.

Accordingly, additional, completely unnecessary problems will appear.

Now we need to find 2 screws that secure the ignition switch itself. You will immediately notice them - at the bottom of the switch, on the left and on the right. There is very little left. In particular, you should disconnect the wires from the ignition switch contacts. Now we find a flat slot on the right, stick an awl into it, and then press on the latch, applying a certain force. Next, pry up the lock with a flat-head screwdriver and remove it from the bracket.

Pay attention to one thing. The lock should be removed without any problems. If, despite the efforts made, it stubbornly does not want to come out of the bracket, it means that you did not press the latch all the way. In this case, you should follow one simple procedure. Press the awl onto the latch, and at the same time move the key slightly from side to side, just do not turn it.

Replacing the contact group and installing the ignition switch

As mentioned above, there are several reasons why this work has to be done. One of them is burning of the contact group. In this case, there is no need to change the entire lock. At the same time, replacing the contact group will not cause you much trouble. To remove it, remove the spring ring. After this, the contact group simply drops out on its own. Now all that remains is to put a new one in its place. This should be done in such a way that the groove on the contact group exactly coincides with the rod of the secret part. After making sure that everything is seated as needed, we secure it with a spring ring.

The ignition switch of the VAZ 2106 is the main control element in the electrical system

and the operation of all systems and mechanisms of the car depends on its technically sound condition.

When the ignition key is in different positions, certain circuits and consumers are energized. The main circuits that are “commanded” by the ignition switch of the VAZ 2106. The wiring diagram includes the ignition circuit and the starter circuit - these are the main circuits.

The ignition switch of the VAZ 2106 consists of mechanical and electrical parts. The mechanical part is made in the body of the ignition switch, and the electrical part is made separately in the form of a terminal block, which is inserted into the lower part of the ignition switch and secured with a retaining ring.

During operation, failures are associated in almost equal proportions with both the mechanical and electrical parts of the ignition switch, where the terminal block accounts for a slightly larger percentage of failures.

Reminder. For any work on the electrical part, the negative terminal of the battery must be removed, unless it is necessary to check the operation of the consumer.

Ignition switch failures

Mechanical failures of the ignition switch

Mechanically, most ignition switch failures are associated with tight turning of the ignition key or its jamming in one of the positions. Often such a malfunction ends with the ignition key breaking and, as a rule, the VAZ 2106 ignition switch being replaced.

Basically, such malfunctions with the ignition key are caused by poor-quality assembly of the ignition switch from clearly inferior manufacturers. Initially, the cost of such a lock is significantly lower than the original VAZ ignition switches, and the owners of the VAZ 2106 simply “get” on their own savings. As a rule, such products are not purchased twice and they buy a high-quality lock that is devoid of such shortcomings.

Electrical failures of the lock

Often, even though the mechanical part of the ignition switch is fully functional, the terminal block of the lock fails, which can be replaced by purchasing it from an auto parts network. The terminal part of the lock “suffers” from burning or complete burnout of contacts connecting certain power supply circuits. It is also common for the central plastic insert to melt and open and close certain contacts in a particular position of the ignition key. This is usually caused by overheating from holding the key in the “starter” position for a long time, when the driver tries for a long time to unsuccessfully start the engine.

In such cases, only the terminal block is purchased, and not the VAZ 2106 ignition switch itself. The wiring diagram should remain the same. If the replacement is being performed for the first time, then it is best to look from below at the ignition switch and sketch the colors of the wire and the terminals to which they are connected. Each terminal on the block has its own number, so it is convenient to write down the wire color and terminal number so as not to confuse anything when installing a new terminal block.

Terminal markings and wire connection diagram

The terminal block has the following pins for connecting to wires: “15”, “30”, “30/1”, “50” and “INT”. The wire suitable for terminal “15” is double blue with a black stripe. The wire to terminal “30/1” is brown. On terminal “30” - pink. At terminal “50” - red or purple. On the “INT” terminal - double black. Terminals “30” and “50” are responsible for starting the starter, which, in the event of a lock failure, can be connected to each other to start the engine in order to get to a service station or auto parts store.

Typically, manufacturers provide a wiring diagram on the terminal block packaging.

The ignition switch of the VAZ 2106 is a fairly simple mechanism. Its scheme includes only four main elements: the body, the contact group, the anti-theft system and the lock itself. All these elements are closely interconnected, but if any of them fails, they can be replaced separately.

Device

Each of the above elements has a separate design. If we look at the ignition switch in more detail, we can note such details as: locking console, housing, shaft, disk with contacts, bushing, block, and cutout of a group of contacts.

The locking console is responsible for locking the steering wheel in the absence of the ignition key in the lock. The case is a protective element and covers the entire structure of the lock. The shaft is responsible for the rotation of the disk with contacts in relation to the sleeve, and forms contact between them. The block and group of contacts, in turn, are connected to the general ignition system of the car, and transmit the resulting contact to the distributor, through the ignition coil.

Replacing the device

Before replacing the ignition switch, it is worth determining whether it can be repaired. Sometimes replacement is simply not advisable, since the breakdown may be insignificant, and when replacing a separate element, it will be eliminated. But, if, nevertheless, a replacement is necessary, then let's figure out how to do it correctly.

Before starting work, be sure to prepare a bench tool, a file with a fine tip, and a multimeter. First of all, you need to remove the protective housing from the lock. Next, to remove the ignition switch, unscrew its fastenings and set the key to position “0” to disable the lock.

Further, the lock disassembly scheme includes removing the locking element through a special opening. This is done using a pre-prepared file. Now the ignition switch can be easily disconnected from the panel.

When connecting a new device, a special diagram must be followed, therefore, the contacts should be marked with a marker before disconnecting them from the part. Connecting a new lock is carried out strictly according to the pinout marked on its rim.

The VAZ 2106 ignition pinout is deciphered as follows:

  • Value “0” - contacts 30 and 30/1, turn off the power system, transferring it to emergency operation.
  • Value “I” - contacts 30/1-15 and 30-INT, include lighting systems (front and interior), windshield wiper, washer motor, heater and air conditioning fan, generator unit, instrument panel sensors, turn signals and sound signals, and also, the ignition system itself.
  • Value “II” - contacts 30/1-15, 30-INT and 30-50, leave the previous elements turned on, with the exception of the ignition system, generator unit and panel instruments. Also, the starter circuit turns on and the engine starts running.
  • Value “III” - contacts 30-INT and 30/1, considered the parking position, stops the starter circuit, leaving the lighting system, wipers, washer motor and cooling system working.

After the lock circuit is connected, test its performance in all modes using a multimeter. To do this, disconnect the battery terminal and install a multimeter between the contact and the battery positive. Turn the ignition key so that it activates the contact being tested. If a sign of operability appears on the multimeter panel, it means that the circuit has been followed correctly. This procedure should be carried out for all four contact positions.

Conclusion

When replacing this element, you should be very careful, since if it is connected incorrectly, the entire ignition circuit will stop working and you will not be able to start the engine. Also, if the contacts are mixed up, you can provoke increased voltage on one of their nodes, which will certainly lead to its instant failure.

It is worth noting that this ignition switch connection diagram is suitable not only for the “six”, but also for the rest of the VAZ “Classic” model range. This is quite convenient, since when choosing a new part, you will not have any special problems.
