The shaft is responsible for the rotation of the disk with contacts in relation to the sleeve, and forms contact between them. The block and group of contacts, in turn, are connected to the general ignition system of the car, and transmit the resulting contact to the distributor, through the ignition coil.

Before replacing the ignition switch, it is worth determining whether it can be repaired. Sometimes replacement is simply not advisable, since the breakdown may be insignificant, and when replacing a separate element, it will be eliminated. But, if, nevertheless, a replacement is necessary, then let's figure out how to do it correctly.

Before starting work, be sure to prepare a bench tool, a file with a fine tip, and a multimeter. First of all, you need to remove the protective housing from the lock. Next, to remove the ignition switch, unscrew its fastenings and set the key to position “0” to disable the lock.

Further, the lock disassembly scheme includes removing the locking element through a special opening. This is done using a pre-prepared file. Now the ignition switch can be easily disconnected from the panel.

When connecting a new device, a special diagram must be followed, therefore, the contacts should be marked with a marker before disconnecting them from the part. Connecting a new lock is carried out strictly according to the pinout marked on its rim.

After the lock circuit is connected, test its performance in all modes using a multimeter. To do this, disconnect the battery terminal and install a multimeter between the contact and the battery positive. Turn the ignition key so that it activates the contact being tested. If a sign of operability appears on the multimeter panel, it means that the circuit has been followed correctly. This procedure should be carried out for all four contact positions.

    How to remove the lock

  • Use a slotted screwdriver to remove the mechanism from the bracket.
  • If the latch cannot be fully pressed, you need to simultaneously slightly turn the key left and right, without turning it all the way. This will allow you to find a position in which the latch will be squeezed out completely and the lock will easily come out. Please note that anti-theft may also interfere. It moves with the key. If you turn the key to the starter position, it will take the most convenient position for removing the lock.

    Another important tip: mark how the wires were connected. This will help you avoid any confusion when installing a new device.

    Replacing the contact group

    Sometimes there is no need to completely change the lock mechanism. It is enough just to change the contact group.

    It is located on the back of the mechanism. Attached to the body with a spring ring. You can try to remove it by hand or using a screwdriver.

    We film the group itself. It consists of two plastic rings that have built-in current-carrying tracks. There is a spring inside the ring.

    Before you begin any troubleshooting work on your car, you should prepare a certain set of tools. In the case of removing the ignition switch on the “six” we will need:

    However, you can do without the latter. An awl can be perfectly replaced by, for example, a miniature screwdriver, or a thin long nail with a cross-section of no more than 2 millimeters. Next, pry up the lock with a flat-head screwdriver and remove it from the bracket.

    Pay attention to one thing. The lock should be removed without any problems. If, despite the efforts made, it stubbornly does not want to come out of the bracket, it means that you did not press the latch all the way. In this case, you should follow one simple procedure. Press the awl onto the latch, and at the same time move the key slightly from side to side, just do not turn it.

    Replacing the contact group and installing the ignition switch


    As mentioned above, there are several reasons why this work has to be done. One of them is burning of the contact group. In this case, there is no need to change the entire lock. At the same time, replacing the contact group will not cause you much trouble. To remove it, remove the spring ring. After this, the contact group simply drops out on its own. Now all that remains is to put a new one in its place. This should be done in such a way that the groove on the contact group exactly coincides with the rod of the secret part. After making sure that everything is seated as needed, we secure it with a spring ring.

    8. The general circuit of the ignition switch is designed so that the potential difference from the battery and the generator unit is supplied to connectors “30” and “30/1”. The “INT” output is intended for integrating an audio system or other gadgets.
    9. When checking the functionality of the anti-theft mechanism, the locking console must move to extension if the ignition key is fixed in position “III” (parking position) and be removed from the locking device.
