Skoda Octavia A5 fl 1.6 mpi service. Skoda Octavia A5 on the secondary market. How to select additional attributes

In addition to larger and more expressive front optics, the externally updated Octavia A5 is distinguished by a front bumper with a larger central air intake and modified foglights, a rear bumper with red reflectors, a different radiator grille and turn signal repeaters in the rear-view mirrors. All these changes have noticeably refreshed the appearance of the model, and it seems larger and more representative.

Story

2004-2008 – A pre-restyling version of the Skoda Octavia A5 was produced.

08.08 – Modernization of Octavia A5. The installation of new gasoline engines has begun: 1.4 L TSI (122 hp) and 1.8 L TSI (160 hp), which replaced the naturally aspirated 2.0 L FSI unit (150 hp).
03.10 – The engine range has been supplemented with a 1.2 liter 16V TSI petrol engine (105 hp) and a 1.6 liter turbodiesel (105 hp). Such versions were not officially sold in Ukraine.
12.12 – The next, third generation of Skoda Octavia in the A7 body has been presented.

Native citizenship

All Octavia A5s were assembled using the large-knot method in Ukraine at the Eurocar plant in Solomonovo.

The model has three modifications: the liftback, which is most widely used in our country, the Combi station wagon and its pseudo-off-road version Scout. A “charged” version of the RS with powerful turbocharged engines was intended for active drivers: 2.0 liter petrol (200 hp) and 2.0 liter diesel (170 hp). The RS was produced in two body styles, but we only have liftbacks and a petrol version. Since we considered the Scout modification separately (“AC” No. 52’2012), today we’ll talk about the qualities of the other versions.

The practical Combi station wagon is less common than the more popular liftback, although it is quite possible to find it on the secondary market.

Octavia A5 bodies are well protected from corrosion. In addition, in the updated car, the designers modernized the seals on the doors, which in earlier versions, over time, rubbed the paint down to metal and provoked the appearance of rust. Among the body parts, the front fog lights should be criticized - they sometimes sweat, and the running light bulbs are short-lived. Problems have been noted with the window regulators (due to contamination of the guides, the glass does not rise all the way, the protection is triggered, and it goes down again - the mechanism needs to be cleaned) and the interior air conditioning system (failure of the air conditioning compressor).

During the restyling, the interior was slightly updated, but something else is much more important - the Octavia A5 still pleases with good ergonomics, functionality and practicality. It is for these qualities that domestic motorists value it. Thanks to its practical body, the liftback features a huge trunk. The carrying capacity of this model is also high. According to these indicators, the Octavia A5 can easily give a head start to many competitors (see photo). All these qualities fully apply to the station wagon, whose trunk is even more spacious.

The dashboard of the updated Octavia A5 is distinguished by a different steering wheel, a redesigned instrument panel with chrome indicator rings, a modified center console with a silver-painted insert and new climate controls.

In the restyled version, the trip computer screen has increased in size and become more informative.

There is enough legroom in the back seat even for tall people. The width will accommodate three passengers, although the person sitting in the middle will be hampered by the high and wide body tunnel, as well as the protruding box with an ashtray and air deflectors.

Look for something fresh!

The line of power units intended for the restyled Octavia A5 has been updated, especially in petrol versions. They began to install engines of the TSI family with turbocharging and a direct fuel injection system with a volume of 1.2, 1.4 and 1.8 liters. The latter unit replaced the naturally aspirated 2.0 liter FSI, and the first two are found only on European versions. Diesel modifications were replenished with a 1.6 liter TDI engine (not officially sold here). All other engines are familiar from the pre-restyling Octavia A5.

Among gasoline units, the most problem-free was the time-tested 8-valve 1.6 liter MPI. Unless it is recommended to wash it - there is a risk of water getting into the contact group on the ignition coil, which then oxidizes, leading to problems with ignition. In principle, there are no special comments about the 2.0 liter TSI petrol “heart” of the “charged” RS versions - it can withstand the increased loads of hot drivers and provides excellent dynamics - 7.2 s to the first “hundred”.

Due to the practical liftback body, the trunk of the Octavia A5 is one of the most spacious in its class. The load capacity is also high - 560/1420 l/675 kg, against, for example, 395/1260/555 kg l for the Ford Focus sedan and 400 l/530 kg for the same version of the Mitsubishi Lancer X.

Most of the complaints are about the 1.8 liter TSI engine - it suffers from increased oil consumption: with active driving, consumption is up to 0.50-0.80 liters per 1 thousand km. Driving with an insufficient level of lubrication leads to troubles with the hydraulic timing chain tensioner, as a result of which it slips along the crankshaft gear, provoking a “fatal” meeting of the valves with the pistons (more often occurs when starting a cold engine). In addition, this unit has problems with the “pump” (loss of tightness, increased operating noise), turbine control solenoid valves, and failure of the high-pressure fuel pump cannot be ruled out). True, by mid-2010 the manufacturer upgraded the 1.8 liter engine, eliminating all weak points. Therefore, when purchasing such modifications on the secondary market, look for more reliable versions released after the above date.

Individual ignition coils of all engines usually fail due to untimely replacement of spark plugs.

Problem robot

The choice of gearboxes designed for the Octavia A5 is varied - “mechanics” with 5 and 6 stages, a 6-speed torque converter “automatic” and a high-tech “robot” DSG.

The most problematic is the DSG. It notes problems in the computer, the so-called mechatronics, which manifests itself in jerks when changing gears (as a rule, when moving from 1st to 2nd and when engaging reverse). In some cases, it is possible to get rid of them by self-adapting the clutch through “reflashing” the ECU, and if this does not help, you will have to change the mechatronics unit that has become unusable or a worn out clutch package.

But “mechanics” and “automatic” turned out to be reliable. Only diesel versions with a manual transmission can be criticized - in them, with a mileage of about 150 thousand km, the failure of the dual-mass flywheel was noted (clicks and knocks when starting to move and idling).

Skoda Octavia A5 2004-2008

The updated version at the rear is distinguished by modified lights and a different rear bumper, which now has red reflectors built into it.

Most Octavia A5s are front-wheel drive. 4x4 modifications are much less common - among such versions, motorists more often bought the pseudo-off-road modification of the Octavia Scout. According to mechanics, their all-wheel drive transmission usually works without problems.

Without changes

The suspension of the updated Octavia A5 remains the same as on the pre-restyling version. McPherson is used at the front, and a multi-link at the rear. There is a stabilizer bar on both axles. The working chassis of most cars has good energy consumption and provides excellent stability and controllability. The exception is the “charged” RS, they are equipped with sports shock absorbers and low-profile tires measuring 225/45 R17 or 225/40 R18, which is why these versions ride much harder.

On our roads, the chassis has proven itself to be durable. So, in the front suspension, the rear silent blocks of the front levers wear out the fastest (after 80 thousand km), and the stabilizer struts can last about 100 thousand km, the front silent blocks - up to 140 thousand km. The service life of ball joints is 200 thousand km or more. There are some difficulties with maintenance - over time, the metal bolts securing the rear silent blocks of the front end to the aluminum subframe boil violently, and when unscrewed, they break easily.

In the rear “multi-link”, by 100 thousand km, the bushings and stabilizer struts (changed separately from it) and the bump stops of the rear shock absorbers may require replacement. By 120-150 thousand km, the “rubber bands” of the rear camber arms wear out (the original assembled spare part costs about 450 UAH). But the silent blocks of the remaining rear levers are capable of withstanding a mileage of up to 200 thousand km. Wheel bearings also last a long time, but when the time comes to replace them, you will have to fork out money - they are replaced only assembled with the hubs (both branded and non-original).

The rack and pinion steering was equipped with an electric booster. This unit turned out to be reliable. Tie rod ends are capable of running 100-150 thousand km, and the rods themselves are even longer. There are no complaints about the braking system - it is effective and, as a rule, works without problems.

Weak points of the car

In DSG robots, problems are created by the ECU unit - the so-called mechatronics.

Over time, the door switch in the trunk lid lock becomes unusable, which is why the backlight inside the cargo compartment does not light up when the lid is opened. After 2010, the castle was modernized.

With frequent use on older cars, the central locking button becomes unusable and fails.

On average, the running light bulb in the front fog lamps lasts about 1 year - during this time the contact group in it burns out, and its coating in the base becomes unusable.

Summary

Body and interior

More expressive and representative appearance compared to the pre-restyling version. Good corrosion resistance. Practical and functional interior. The trunk and load capacity of the model are among the largest among its classmates. High market value. The front fog lamps may fog up and the running light bulbs may have a short lifespan. Problems with power windows and failure of the air conditioning compressor were noted. Failure of the central locking button and the limit switch in the trunk lid lock.

Engines

The 1.6 liter MPI engine has proven to be the most trouble-free. The “charged” 2.0 l TFSI engine withstands increased loads and provides excellent dynamics. Diesels digest our diesel fuel quite well and are distinguished by good torque and efficiency. In 1.8 liter TSI engines produced before mid-2010, there is increased oil consumption, problems with the timing chain tensioner, pump, turbine control solenoid valves, and high-pressure pump.

Transmission

Varied selection of gearboxes. Reliable “mechanics” and “automatic”, all-wheel drive transmission. Problems with mechatronics, premature wear of the clutch pack (DSG robot). At 150 thousand km, a failure of the dual-mass flywheel (manual gearbox paired with diesel engines) was noted.

Chassis, steering

Energy-intensive suspension. Good stability and controllability. A good resource for suspensions and steering consumables. Problem-free steering and brakes. Problematic replacement of the rear silent blocks of the front control arms. Wheel bearings are replaced only as an assembly with hubs.

Like

I used to drive a Skoda Fabia. Since I like cars of this brand, I chose the Octavia A5. The restyled version attracts with its more solid appearance and a more powerful engine that provides excellent dynamics. Well, in general, I want to praise this model for its spacious interior with high-quality finishing and good equipment, a spacious trunk (it has helped me out more than once in various household matters) and good reliability.

I do not like

I can criticize the car for its voracious engine - it “eats” a lot of oil - somewhere around 0.25-0.30 liters per 1 thousand km. During operation, I have already changed the light bulb and the base of the running lights twice - it turns out that this is the weak point of this model. Rearward visibility is also not very good - the outer rear marker is not visible, therefore, in order to avoid troubles, after purchasing the car I installed rear parking sensors.

My rating is 4.5

Resume "AC"

Car introduced in 2004 Skoda Octavia the second generation was created on the platform of the Volkswagen Group A5(PQ35). The car received a new line of engines consisting of seven engines: BCA 1.4 l, BGU 1.6 l, BLF 1.6 l, BYT 1.8 l, BJB 1.9 - liter TDI turbodiesel, BKD 2.0 l and another TDI AZV turbodiesel with a volume of 2.0 l. The bodies were presented in two types: Octavia (sedan) and Octavia Combi (station wagon). The maintenance schedule for the Octavia A5 sedan and station wagon is similar. The official manual states that routine maintenance must be carried out exclusively at a service station and this procedure, as a rule, will cost extra financial costs. To be able to save money, you can carry out routine maintenance yourself, since it is not at all difficult and this manual will help you with this. The cost of do-it-yourself maintenance of the Octavia II will depend only on the price of spare parts and consumables (the approximate price is indicated for the Moscow region and in US dollars at the exchange rate at the time of writing). Search code G 012 A8F M1 1.5 liter container (concentrate) diluted with water in a 1:1 ratio. The total volume of the system is 1.4 l - 6.7 liters, 1.6 l - 6.9 liters, 2.0 l - 8.2 liters.
  2. in manual transmissions and automatic transmissions it is not regulated by the manufacturer and is performed during repairs. Nevertheless, experts recommend checking the oil level in the box and replacing it every 100 thousand km.

How much does maintenance cost for Skoda Octavia 2?

Drawing a final line over maintenance regulations for Skoda Octavia II A5, we can draw several conclusions regarding the cost of the Skoda Octavia A5 work schedule. The most expensive maintenance the eighth technical inspection of the car will come out, which is done after a mileage of 135 thousand km... At this stage, you will need to replace the engine oil and oil filter ($38), spark plugs ($20) and timing belt ($49) total $107.00.. The second most expensive is TO6, where you need to replace the air filter ($10), cabin filter ($7), engine oil and oil filter ($38), brake fluid ($8), spark plugs ($20) and fuel filter ($15.5) total $98.5. Concerning the cheapest maintenance, and this is, of course, TO1, it will cost you only 38$ for changing the oil and oil filter. These prices are relevant if you carry out all the work yourself, because the prices are only for spare parts and consumables, and if you add here the price of the invoice that the service station issues to you, then you can easily lose a couple of thousand rubles.

Many motorists in the world prefer products from the Czech Skoda. These comfortable and reliable cars can be found on the roads of various continents. All new products from manufacturers are expected by both experts and car enthusiasts. The A5 modification of the Skoda Octavia, equipped with a 1.6-liter engine, is quite popular among European and Russian owners. The design and technical characteristics of the a5 fully meet the requirements of modern standards. Modification a7 is also of interest. It must be said that the a7 body began to be produced in 2013. Let's look at a small description of the models, as well as reviews from users of a7 and a5.

The unit and its features

The A5 Octavia has several powertrain options. The inscriptions on the trunk indicate that the car is equipped with an MPI engine. Being a modification of the well-known BSE product, the engine has been produced by VAG for about 10 years. The main feature that distinguishes this power unit is the low toxicity of its exhaust gases, which is due to the design features. This is evidenced by numerous reviews of the Skoda Octavia with a 1.6 liter engine.

Thanks to the use of aluminum when creating the block, the weight of the unit is significantly lower, and the power is 102 “horses”. Skoda Octavia, equipped with a 1.6 engine, consumes both 95 and 92 gasoline, consuming about 11 liters in the city, and about 8 liters outside the city. Equipped, at the user's choice, with an automatic or manual transmission, the Skoda with a 1.6 engine operates smoothly.

This is evidenced by reviews of car owners of the automatic model and those who prefer mechanics.

Comments from car enthusiasts

Mikhail, driving experience – 10 years

But I always liked the A5 Octavia; it has a lot of advantages. An almost immense trunk, a Volks platform, excellent ergonomics, exceptional build quality. The list of advantages of the Skoda Octavia can be continued endlessly. In general, having got rid of Cruise, it was decided to take the A5 Octavia with a naturally aspirated 1.6 mpi - an extremely durable engine, in tandem with which there is a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Since I bought the A5 car used, after purchasing it I immediately changed all the filters and oil. What can I say about the purchase? The handling, noise and smoothness of the A5 are excellent, you get complete pleasure from driving, quality can be seen in everything. Parking sensors, climate control, high-quality sensors that control light and rain work exceptionally well. In short, dreams come true, and I have more in the car than I would like. In addition, there are a huge number of secret boxes and plenty of space for a fun company.

Separately, it should be said about the box and engine of the a5 Octavia. Despite the fact that my 8-valve 1.6 MPI is old, it feels absolutely confident and pulls out great from the very bottom. The automatic transmission is simply lovely, it’s also pleasing, it works exceptionally, shifts quickly, and in “sport” mode it drives clearly, cheerfully and predictably. Now I’m not surprised by the reviews of enthusiastic automatic transmission car owners.

Fuel consumption is quite acceptable; in city traffic jams it consumes no more than 14 liters. If traffic jams can be avoided, then you can get by with 10 liters. Outside the city it’s absolutely lovely; the A5 model doesn’t consume more than 7.5. Thanks to the precise operation of the brakes, we managed to avoid “kissing” the minibus. The maneuverability of the a5 Octavia can be compared to a small car; the car is capable of turning around in a small space. In general, I’m happy with the car, I recommend it to anyone who needs a quiet and high-quality transport with an incredibly large trunk.

Igor, car ownership experience – 9 years

Over the entire period of operation, serious breakdowns include the air conditioning compressor and a bearing that flew in the gearbox during winter driving. By that time, the mileage had exceeded 100 thousand. Despite the fact that I don’t abuse the Skoda very much, I don’t drive like a pensioner, on the highway I definitely squeeze out 140–170 km.

What can I say about the 1.6 MPI engine. At the 325th thousand mileage, the valve cover gasket began to “snotty”. Having listened to many stories from automatic transmission car owners, I can say that I am very pleased with the manual transmission. She is very attentive to my requirements, sensitively reacting to the slightest movement. I have no words. I am very glad that I purchased the a5 Skoda Octavia with the 1.6 MPI engine.

Sergey, car ownership experience - 4 years

Like my previous and current A7 Skoda, they are equipped with a 1.6 MPI engine. I consider the years of owning a car with an A7 body to be the best. Initially, I was suspicious of the MPI power for the 1.6-liter A7 unit. I was especially concerned about the tandem with an automatic transmission; I thought that for such an engine, a manual transmission was the most acceptable option. However, it turned out to be the opposite. The power of the MPI a7 is quite enough to overcome climbs and make sharp accelerations. After listening to A7 automatic car owners, as well as from my own experience, I was convinced that the automatic transmission in combination with the 1.6 liter MPI engine behaves absolutely adequately, and there is enough power for my A7 “dinosaur”.

Vladislav, car ownership experience – 1.5 years

I decided to tell my impressions about the Skoda Tour brand with a 1.6 liter gasoline engine, since this car is my first possession. Considering that the quality/price ratio suited me, I chose this model. After reading reviews of past and present owners on the Internet and visiting showrooms, I decided to buy a Tour, which attracted me with its advantages: the large dimensions of the time-tested car itself and the luggage compartment.

Today I am very pleased with my car: a spacious interior, air conditioning, good finishing, a large trunk and an on-board computer - a big plus for the Skoda Tour model as a family vehicle. Now the mileage of my Octavia (Tour) is a little more than 2 thousand kilometers, and I must say that the running-in of the MPI engine was successful.

Finally

As evidenced by reviews from motorists, when compared with turbo engines, the 1.6 MPI is unpretentious, so when choosing an Octavia, many would give it preference. In addition, this engine is not equipped with the famous DSG, but with a conventional hydromechanical automatic transmission. To answer the question whether such a unit is sufficient for such a fairly large car, a Tour was tested, equipped not with an automatic transmission, but with a manual transmission.

The engine confidently and effortlessly accelerates a heavy car, like a run-down B-class. Moderate weight also helps with acceleration: thanks to the high-strength steel used for the chassis, the base 1.6 MPI Octavia Tour weighs 1,225 kg. This is quite good for a car whose length exceeds 4.5 meters.

In addition, the Tour is endowed with an excellent gearbox, which has a successful selection of numbers and an intelligible shift mechanism. It is worth noting that an atmospheric engine is the right step. It makes the car more understandable to the Russian clientele, without spoiling the Tour concept.

The previous generation A4 is a fairly reliable Skoda Octavia; we will now look into how worthy the A5 is of a car in more detail. The A5 generation was produced from 2004 to 2013.

Body

The Volkswagen concern knows how to deal with corrosion, so there are no problems with Skoda in terms of rust, the body lasts a long time and does not rust if there has been no accident or handicraft body repair. In 2008 there was a restyling, after which the headlights, taillights, hood, instrument panel were changed, and different engines began to be installed. And the body became less angular.

Since the metal is galvanized, the paint holds well, but if chips appear, they need to be touched up anyway; corrosion appears on them and grows if it is not touched up. Door seals on cars before restyling were not very good. Also, the door moldings begin to peel off and the headlights become cloudy. Chrome loses its luster after only 6 years of use, but there is little in the car that is decorated with it. Also here, the contacts in the license plate illumination are not particularly reliably protected from moisture. These contacts cost 10 euros. It also happens that the switch under the brake pedal fails, so the brake light stops working.

Also, after 5-6 years, various control units may begin to fail. Therefore, before purchasing, you need to check if everything is in order with the wiring between the driver’s door and the body; the harness may break at the bend. In 2011, they just started making more reliable wiring. There are other minor problems on cars produced before restyling, for example, the audio system unit may malfunction. Also, the door locks are not particularly secure. The windshield wiper trapeze already requires replacement after 100,000 km, it costs 200 euros. There is also a wiper on the trunk lid in some trim levels; it can also fail.

Salon

Everything in the cabin is done with high quality, squeaks appear after 100,000 km. mileage But the age of the car will be revealed by the steering wheel, which becomes highly polished after 3-5 years, and the gear knob will also look.

The climate control fan motor begins to squeal, like on VAZs, after 80,000 km. A new motor like this will cost 100 euros. You can, of course, lubricate it, but this will not help for a long time, so you can also change the bearings, then the motor will no longer be able to squeal for a long time. At the factory, this design was finalized only in 2012.

In a Skoda Octavia A5 equipped with Climatronic automatic climate control, the damper actuators and control unit may fail after 3-5 years. There are cases that a 5-year-old car has small cracks in the air conditioning evaporator, and the compressor here is also not particularly reliable, and replacing it will cost 300 euros. And in the winter season, when you get into the car, you have to shake off your feet so that snow does not get on the gas pedal, because there is a plastic hinge, and it may not withstand the excess ice and fail, you will have to change the entire assembly for 100 euros.

Motors

Skoda Octavia A5 with a diesel engine is a rarity on the secondary market, but these engines are generally good. This is a 2-liter diesel engine with a common rail system. True, there were minor troubles with fuel lines, which was recalled in 2011 by the company.

There are also cases that the valve cover seal leaks, and if you drive in traffic jams, the USR valve becomes dirty, the replacement of which will cost 280 euros. And when a car has a mileage of more than 130,000 km, then the intake manifold and water pump have to be replaced. If you drive normally, then as a rule, just once every 120,000 km is enough. change injector seals, a set of which costs 15 euros. This all applies to diesel cars produced after 2010.

As for diesel cars produced before 2010, these are 1.9 and 2.0 engines, they are more risky because they have more expensive pump injectors in the power system, each such injector costs 700 euros. In the 2-liter engine, the cylinder heads were often replaced because cracks appeared in them, and the oil pump drive failed after 100,000 km. Also, in diesel engines, the 2-mass flywheel lasts 2 times less than on gasoline engines, that is, approximately 80,000 km, and costs 800 euros. So, it’s better not to even think about diesel versions of the Skoda Octavia A5.

Charged Skoda Octavia RS

For those who want a faster car, you can take a closer look at the Octavia RS, which comes in several variations - station wagon or hatchback. The RS comes with a lower sports suspension, which already begins to demand attention after about 60,000 km. There are also low-profile tires here. Under the hood of these charged Octavias is a 2-liter turbocharged BWA engine with a timing belt, but the engine also has a chain.

After restyling, they began to install another motor - CCZA, it no longer has a belt, only a chain. The power remained the same - 200 hp. With. But these engines have low oil consumption - up to 1 liter per 1000 km. But in terms of reliability, the engines in the RS are approximately the same as those in regular Octavias. After 2006, a diesel engine appeared with more torque but less power. True, this engine does not have a particularly reliable injection system and turbine. But this motor will certainly work for some time.

The most reliable engine that can be found in the Skoda Octavia A5 is an 8-valve gasoline engine with a volume of 1.6 liters; it has conventional distributed injection. This motor can be found on a third of cars of this model.

Its power, of course, is not particularly large; this engine from the EA827 family, which first appeared in the 80s, was installed on the 2nd generation Volkswagen Golf and Audi 80. The engine remains just as simple and reliable, it can easily last 350 000 km. mileage But every 100,000 you need to change the timing belt and water pump, which costs 140 euros, but an analogue can be found for 30. You also need to change the ignition coil periodically along with high-voltage wires.

There may also be some minor problems associated with age, for example, crankshaft seals begin to leak. Oil seals can also harden over time, and piston rings can become coked. If this happens, it will be immediately visible by the bluish smoke from the exhaust pipe. Usually, this can be after 140,000 km.

And if the hydraulic valve compensators are already worn out, then characteristic sounds will appear; they cost 13 euros. If floating speed suddenly appears at idle, this means that it is time to inspect the injectors and check the idle speed control. By the way, the injectors cost 90 euros. You also need to clean the throttle valve. And the main difficulty is the worn-out plastic of the intake manifold. A new collector costs 130 euros.

All-wheel drive version

For those who think they want to go off-road in an all-wheel drive Skoda Octavia, it makes sense to take a closer look at the Octavia Scout, which has a system that connects the rear axle. An all-wheel drive station wagon costs 150,000 more than a regular station wagon. Ground clearance in Scout is 40 mm. more than a regular Skoda. The gearbox in the all-wheel drive Skoda Octavia is a 6-speed manual, it lasts a long time and rarely ever fails, if only once every 60,000 km. change the oil and filter in the Haldex coupling. To prevent the clutch from overheating, the system uses sensors; the service life of the clutch is about 200,000 km. mileage

There is also a 16-valve naturally aspirated engine with a volume of 1.4 liters, but it has very little power - 80 hp. With. And the car weighs quite a lot, so this engine is a little lacking even when driving around the city. There is also a 2.0 engine without a turbine; it was installed on the Octavia before the 2008 restyling. There are not very many cars with this engine either, but the car is quite fast. But in cold weather, cars with this engine do not start very well.

On gasoline Octavias, you also need to make sure that there is a clean mesh filter in the fuel pump, which is located in the tank. This is not easy to do and usually no one does it, but if it is noticed that the fuel supply has deteriorated, this means that the mesh is clogged. It is not necessary to change the entire pump for 150 euros, because many craftsmen can now change the mesh separately for only 60 euros. It is also necessary once every 50,000 km. Clean the injectors and change the timing belt. And the water pump also needs to be changed periodically.

But these are all trifles; real problems arise if the car has a turbocharged engine. Cars produced in 2009 and 2010 were equipped with engines of the EA111 series, the volume of which is 1.4 liters; such configurations are quite rare. But even less common are cars with a 1.2-liter engine that have a chain instead of a timing belt. The creators intended that the chain would withstand the entire service life of the motor, but as a rule, because of it, the service life of the motor decreased; it already begins to stretch after 60,000 km. Therefore, for prevention, it is necessary to change the timing drive as soon as sounds from a rattling chain appear.

In addition, in cars with a 1.2-liter engine, turbochargers were replaced under warranty, which cost 500 euros. In the 1.4-liter engine, these turbochargers are stronger, but it happens that the bypass valve or control valve fails. But the pistons are weaker, because their design is not particularly successful, and the rings are also weak. Also, a liquid intercooler can be a hassle; it can become leaky and coolant will leak into the intake manifold. Also, after some time, the heat exchanger becomes dirty, so cooling will deteriorate.

Only in 2011 the pistons were modified, and the timing was also improved, after which it became very unlikely that the chain would jump. So that the chain does not stretch before 120,000 km. – there is no need to leave the car on a hill without a handbrake. Also, you don’t need to push start the car; this applies not only to Skoda, but to all Volkswagen cars that have motors with a timing chain. The most popular engine used in the Skoda Octavia A5 is a 1.8-liter engine. This motor also has its own characteristics during operation.

For example, the oil separator becomes dirty, the membrane in the crankcase ventilation valve becomes stiff, and much more, all this was corrected in 2012. This year, the elements of the piston group were also modified, because the design was unsuccessful, and after a while the engine consumed a lot of oil. Also, the timing drive has been improved, whereas previously it could withstand up to 100,000 km, but now it has become 2 times more durable.
As with any car, you should not skimp on oil, and it is advisable to change it more often - 2 times a year, regardless of mileage, and if the car drives a lot, then more often.

Injectors, as on any turbocharged engine, are sensitive to fuel quality. They cost at least 120 euros apiece. Also, the high pressure pump costs 250 euros. It will all go down at once if you fill it with low-quality fuel. The car also does not like short winter trips, this especially applies to cars with a direct injection system. If the engine has not warmed up properly, it will stall slightly, and the spark plugs will not last long and will damage the ignition coils. A set of spark plugs costs 15 euros, and ignition coils cost 40 euros.

Gearboxes

There are different boxes in Octavia. There are fewer problems with mechanical ones, but Octavias before restyling have their own nuances. For example, for engines with a volume of 1.2 and 1.4 liters there is a 5-speed gearbox 0AF. On cars produced before restyling, this box could break down after 40,000 km. After restyling, it was modified, and it began to last at least 120,000 km. There is also a 6-speed manual 02S; it is installed on cars with more powerful engines. It also has its own nuances, but in general, if you have a head on your shoulders, then it will last for some time, that is, you don’t need to make sudden slips often and everything will be fine.

On sports modifications of the RS there is a 6-speed gearbox 02Q, which also does not like to be torn sharply. This box was also improved after 2008 and it began to last longer. The Aisin Warner TF-61SN 6-speed automatic transmission has proven itself well in terms of reliability; it was created by the Japanese and Germans jointly back in 2003. This machine is installed on engines 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0. On more powerful motors, the heat exchanger may fail, after which the bearings and control unit will begin to fail due to overheating. Therefore, if at a mileage of 80,000 km. the gears will start shifting with shocks, this means that it is time to change the valve body for 1000 euros or it can still be repaired for 400. We must also not forget that in this box the oil must be changed every 60,000 km, although according to the instructions this is to be done No need. But if you change the oil, the box will last much longer.

There are also 6-speed robotic gearboxes DQ250, they also need to change the oil every 60,000 km. After 2010, they began installing a mechatronic hydraulic control unit on charged and diesel versions with this gearbox, which is no worse than in the Japanese gearbox.

In addition to the above gearboxes, there is also a 7-speed robotic gearbox DQ200, which is very unreliable. This box first appeared in 2008, it had dry LuK clutches, then this box was damp and required improvements. It had problems with the mechatronics, and after a while the clutches also began to wear out quite quickly, which is already by 50,000 km. required replacement. Well, there were also other minor problems.

Dealership centers began sounding the alarm and reflashing the software in the control unit, and in addition, under warranty, they replaced the clutches, and sometimes the entire gearbox assembly. The developers tried to save the situation with this box, sending new firmware for the unit twice a year, but the most significant modernization was only in 2012. If the box is not specially killed, then it can last no less than 130,000 km. without replacing the clutch, the box itself can last at least 250,000 km.

Suspension

But things are better with the suspension, but at first, after 50,000 km. The rear silent blocks of the levers on the front suspension with MacPherson struts were worn out. New these silent blocks cost 30 euros. In cars produced after restyling, they have already begun to last 120,000 km. But by this mileage the time has already come to change the steering tips for 40 euros, and the bearings on the front and rear hubs. They need to be replaced together with the hub for 130 euros. First the rear shock absorbers require replacement, and after a while the front ones too, the rear shock absorbers cost 70 euros, and the front shock absorbers 100 euros. We are talking about the original, if you take analogues, you get 20 for the rear and 45 for the front.

If there is a grunting noise while turning the steering wheel, this means that it is time to change the support bearings on the front struts, but if the stabilizer bushings are worn out, then you will have to change the entire assembly with the stabilizer at once, this will cost 140 euros. In general, it’s not a car, but sheer expenses. There are configurations with raised suspension, this is a package for bad roads, there have been cases where the rear springs in these cars have burst, which cost 85 euros.

There were also cases that after 90,000 km. on pre-restyling cars, the silent blocks at the rear wishbones delaminated. But after restyling, the rear suspension began to serve for quite a long time; you don’t have to look under the car until 160,000 km. Moreover, silent blocks are inexpensive - 10 euros each.

As a result, the Skoda Octavia A5 is a very problematic car when it comes to pre-restyling cars. Therefore, the best option to buy would be a car after restyling with a 1.6 engine. The prices are really not particularly adequate, the car does not lose value very quickly, which benefits the sellers. The previous generation of Skoda Octavia Tour was produced until 2010 along with the new Skoda Octavia A5. Moreover, the first generation Octavia Tour is more reliable and costs 80,000 rubles less. And the Volkswagen Passat B6 costs more than the Octavia A5 by about 50,000 rubles.

Feelings behind the wheel of the Octavia A5

The car drives well, you always want to press the gas to the floor, especially if you don’t know that the clutch in the DSG box doesn’t like sudden acceleration. The turbocharged Octavia with a 1.4-liter engine starts quickly, excellent handling, soft suspension, the car does not shy away on uneven surfaces, it is a soft and comfortable car.

But when driving in traffic jams, the DSG gearbox is very uncomfortable, because the shifts are quite hard and there are jerks. The automatic transmission is more comfortable. But during acceleration, if you press the gas pedal a little, you can drive at a speed of 50 km/h in seventh gear. The car even has a sport mode, which perfectly cranks the engine up to maximum speed.

Overall, it’s a good car, nimble, comfortable with a large trunk, but it also has its drawbacks - the car is not comfortable in traffic jams and the sound insulation is so-so. But 1.6 MPI is considered the most reliable, only the oil needs to be changed every 10,000 km. If you want more power, then it’s better to take the 1.4 TSI. Moreover, the Skoda Octavia is considered a very liquid car on the secondary market.

Photos of Skoda Octavia A5 and A5 FL;

— what are their differences;

— a couple of photos with tuning of both models;

This question still remains popular both among car owners themselves and among car owners of other brands.

I don’t have the opportunity to take and compare two cars a5 and a5 FL live, I collected information from different sources. Everything is copy-paste, and all this can be found, but in the form of long articles.

Here I just did it briefly and in one place. Add in the comments if anyone knows more.

The main differences between the Skoda Octavia A5 and the A5 FL

Skoda Octavia A5- C-class hatchback, produced since 2004. Production of the model started in 1996. This car comes with petrol and diesel engines ranging from 1.6 to 2 liters, transmission - 5-speed or 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic with manual shift function. The car has front-wheel drive.

In 2008, the Skoda Octavia II was completely restyled. Not only the interior, but also the exterior, especially in the front part of the body, was redesigned. There is also a new engine - a 1.4-liter petrol TSI, and a 7-speed robotic automatic transmission for 1.4 and 2.0 petrol engines.
In 2005, a sports version of the Octavia A5 with the “RS” index was released for fans of an aggressive driving style with improved technical characteristics.
In 2007, the Skoda Octavia model range was replenished with an all-wheel drive all-terrain station wagon with increased ground clearance (Skoda Octavia Scout), which was produced on the basis of the all-wheel drive Combi.

The shape of the front optics and bumper was slightly changed, and the rear lights were slightly adjusted.

My friend is not FL, but I am FL, respectively, they compared:
They stopped installing a plastic engine cover, it makes the engine compartment look nicer.
and his dashboard is green, but mine is white, I mean, the numbers glow white.

Another electronics circuit - in FL there is an order of magnitude more of it.

Restyle has new headrests (cheaper, without adjustment)
new seats (according to the codes, even the frame numbers are different) + softer foam

Visibility has been improved due to mirrors, the range of engines has become poorer, the “package for bad roads” now costs money (approx. 5 thousand rubles) - but it’s better to install it.

There are differences in build quality and paint quality - heaven and earth.
BEFORE the Restyle, Skoda was and is a NOT killable workhorse.
FL - only problems - read the reviews and suffering of the people regarding the oil burner and DSG boxes.

The suspension is a bit harsh.
In fact - interior/exterior.
The new engine + dsg7 sucks, with design flaws.
Engines, it doesn’t matter whether it’s 1.6 or 1.8, suffer from oil burns.
DSG-7 boxes are killers.
The muzzle, steering wheel, and torpedo have been knocked down.

The bumpers are worse in FL - they removed the plastic skirt.
The distance from the ground to the lower point of the crankcase protection is 16.5 cm, without load. Painted moldings on the doors.

FL differs from dorestyle:

- engines, restyling - worse.
- modified suspension (FL worse),
— electronics (FL allows you to install any radio, and up to FL only Stream),
— modified steering column units (cruise is more expensive),
— support for new generation parking sensors,
— headlights (fl shines much better)

As already noted, the main difference between the restyled cars (FL) was the new engines and gearboxes, which were not previously available on the Octavia. I’m writing this from memory, so I could be wrong somewhere. Accordingly, what was written on our market could have countless variations for other countries...

Before restyling, cars had engines:

gasoline engines

1.6 FSI (115 hp 155 N/m) combined with 5 manual transmissions or 6 automatic transmissions (torque converter), front-wheel drive
2.0 FSI (150 hp 200 N/m) combined with manual transmission or 6 automatic transmissions (torque converter), front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (available in Combi and Scout versions)
1.8 TSI (160 hp 250 N/m) combined with a 6-speed manual transmission, front-wheel drive, was supplied for a short time.
2.0 TSI (200 hp 280 N/m) - RS version, only 6 manual transmissions, front-wheel drive.

turbodiesel

1.9 TDI (105 hp 250 N/m) combined with 5 manual transmission, front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (available in Combi version)
2.0 TDI (140 hp 320 N/m)) combined with 6 DSG, front-wheel drive

After restyling:

1.4 (80 hp 132 N/m) combined with 5 manual transmission, front-wheel drive
1.6 (102 hp 148 N/m) combined with 5 manual transmissions or 6 automatic transmissions (torque converter), front-wheel drive
1.4 TSI (122 hp 200 N/m) combined with 6 manual transmissions or 7 DSG, front-wheel drive
1.8 TSI (152 hp 250 N/m) combined with 6 manual transmissions or 7 DSG, subsequently with 6 automatic transmissions (torque converter), front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (available in the Scout version)
turbodiesels disappeared from this model for Russia.

There is no year before restyling 2010 (or even 2009), in 09 they were sold until the summer, but these cars were released in 2008 (the only version of the car was imported from the Czech Republic, where they were produced for about a year).

The transition from one model to another took place in the 45th week of 2008, this is the last week of November, that is, in fact, 99% of 2008 was before the restyling.
