Instructions for using the starline alarm key fob. Alarm Starline, operating instructions. Temporarily disabling sensors

The starline manufacturer has proven itself well in the domestic car alarm market and is very popular among car owners. The article will describe in detail how to set up a starline alarm, how to separately set up a key fob and other nuances regarding debugging the operating modes of alarms from the manufacturer Starline.

Types of key fobs and their characteristics

ATTENTION! A completely simple way to reduce fuel consumption has been found! Don't believe me? An auto mechanic with 15 years of experience also didn’t believe it until he tried it. And now he saves 35,000 rubles a year on gasoline!

Depending on the model, you can set up the starline alarm using a key fob; key fobs differ in:

  • operating range of the key fob;
  • signal frequency;
  • key fob power type.

On earlier models, as well as cheaper and non-feedback alarm models, the operating range of a conventional key fob is approximately 500-700 m, depending on conditions. The auxiliary key fob allows you to use the key fob at a distance of 15-20m.

The situation is completely different with modern ones; they are capable of maintaining a signal at a distance of 1-2 km from the car, depending on conditions; in addition, the functions of the feedback key fob are quite extensive and allow fine-tuning the alarm to the requirements of the car owner.

If for some reason the main key fob does not work or has been lost, then you should use an additional or auxiliary key fob, the main thing is not to forget to purchase and set up a new key fob in a timely manner.

The signal frequency of all key fobs is 420-440 MHz.
The batteries on regular key fobs are a flat battery (3V), on key fobs with feedback - 1.5V (AAA).

Alarm operating modes

Most alarm models in the mid-price segment of this manufacturer have a variety of sensors and operating modes that form a large multifunctional vehicle security complex. This complex includes programmed modes:

  1. Advanced immobilizer mode.
  2. Regular self-diagnosis of the entire alarm system.
  3. Monitoring sensors, setting them up (using a key fob or computer).
  4. Silent security mode (this mode can operate both when the engine is running and when it is turned off).
  5. Monitoring vehicle location via GPS.
  6. Service modes for setting up alarm systems and flashing key fobs by the user.

Operating modes, setting up sensors using a key fob

Setting up the Starline key fob will not cause you any big problems if you study the instructions in detail and follow them. In modern key fobs with feedback, the alarm is controlled using three buttons located on the key fob. The symbols on the key fob will indicate that certain alarm modes are enabled.

Functions of the buttons on the key fob

Button #1

When pressed once, the standard security mode is activated, when pressed again (after about 5 seconds), the security mode is activated without sound notification.

If you press button No. 1 twice, the shock sensor control mode is activated.

If the car's ignition is turned on (when the engine is warming up, etc.), pressing the button once allows you to close the car doors.

Button #2

When pressed once, the standard security mode is turned off, but if you press the button a second time (after about 5 seconds), the security system is disarmed without a sound signal.

If the car’s ignition is in the “on” mode, then pressing button No. 2 once will open the door locks in the car.

If the alarm mode suddenly goes off, but the car is not in danger, then one press of the button will remove the car from the alarm mode.

Button #3

Single click = enable “control” mode. In this mode, all sensors and systems are checked in forced mode.

Long-pressing button No. 3 enables a certain mode that was programmed in advance, for example, starting the car using a timer at a certain moment or entering the “Starline alarm setting” mode.

Setting the volume mode

To configure the operation of sensors, you must have access to . Settings are made using the main key fob with feedback (with LCD screen).

With the ignition off, press the service button 5 times and then turn on the ignition. The car beep will sound (5 times) and the indication signal on the key fob will sound.

Then you need to press button No. 2 on the key fob. The icons on the key fob (on the screen) will display the inscription SO UN indicating that the volume of the sound signal has been adjusted.

To enter the sound signal setting mode, you need to press and hold button No. 3 for a few seconds, then quickly click the button again. A number indicating the signal volume will light up on the screen. To increase the volume, press button No. 3 once. To reduce the volume, go through all the modes in a circle
(there are 9 of them in total), and stop at the desired signal volume. To exit the setup mode, just turn off the ignition. If the modes are not saved, then you need to completely reset the alarm and again configure all modes to suit your needs.

Setting up shock sensors

Attention! This method is suitable for the most common starline alarm models A63, A93, A64, A94, B64, B94, D64, D94, E60, E90, E61, E91.

  2. Using buttons No. 2 and No. 3 we adjust the sensitivity of the shock sensors. Button No. 2 - increase sensitivity, No. 3 - decrease sensitivity.
  3. To maintain the sensitivity of the shock sensors, you need to hold down button No. 3 for a few seconds, then quickly click the button again. The results are saved. If the results are not saved, then you need to reset the settings and configure all modes again.

If the Starline alarm system is selected as a security system for the car, the operating instructions must be thoroughly studied by the car owner. However, not everyone has the endurance to study such an extensive document. Our article was created specifically for this case and is a concentrate of information that is enough for the first acquaintance with the Starline electronic car watchman.

Starline alarm system with auto start - system capabilities

The first thing that is assessed when choosing a Starline alarm is its capabilities. The set of functions can be very diverse. It divides the entire car into 9 separate zones and sets its own protection methods for each.

Most modern models of this brand have:

  • blocking relay against unauthorized start;
  • push-button switches for doors, hoods and trunk;
  • body elements and glass have shock sensors (two-level);
  • ignition switch control;
  • parking brake release lock.

Starline necessarily contains information about the security of the system itself from hacking, since there will always be people who want to neutralize it. In particular, the developer proposed the following precautions:

  • protection of the signal from interception by dynamic code;
  • alarm with a limited number of cycles;
  • interrupting an alarm without disabling the security state;
  • saving system settings when the power is turned off;
  • Individual access code for emergency shutdown.

The Starline alarm system, according to the operating instructions, can notify the car owner in various ways and protect your car. The capabilities of the system are traditional, and they are as follows:

  • sound and light warning;
  • transmitting a signal to a key fob with feedback;
  • programmable engine blocking settings;
  • safe locking “anti-robbery” (imitation of a motor malfunction);
  • panic mode.

A distinctive feature of Starline car security systems is its extensive self-diagnosis capabilities. The starline alarm monitors the status of sensors and modes. In case of damage to elements, the car owner receives a notification about this on the key fob or LED indicator of the unit.

Instructions for the Starline alarm system - control principles

No less exciting for car enthusiasts is the issue of mastering the Starline alarm control system. Usually there is a remote control for this, or rather three types of remote control:

  • push-button without feedback;
  • push-button with feedback;
  • push-button with feedback and display.

The number of buttons for all Starline modifications is three.

For the Starline alarm with auto start, the instructions contain a more detailed explanation of how to control other functions when using different combinations of buttons. To master this material, you will have to spend extra time to avoid confusion and embarrassment when you cannot get inside your car.

It would be useful for a car enthusiast to know that the Starline alarm system has a detailed explanation of the system’s response to the submission of certain commands in the instructions. By pressing a button or a combination of them, the security system necessarily reacts in a certain way (sound or light signal, blinking side lights, etc.). This sign confirms that the driver’s command has been completed. Lack of response may indicate a problem with the system or incorrect use of control button combinations.

In fact, there is nothing complicated in managing the Starline system. Carefully study the manual and that’s it – you are in charge of the safety of your car.

Today, the automotive market offers a wide selection of security systems for cars. The Starline alarm system with auto start has become widespread among motorists. The article is devoted to this alarm: features and functions are discussed, installation and configuration instructions are given.

Peculiarities

The main feature of the Starline alarm system is the interactive encryption method, which is protected from reading by burglar equipment. All models, designed for use in urban environments, have a long range: in receiving mode it reaches up to 1.5 thousand km. To increase the resistance of signaling to radio interference, there are systems that have either special channels for radio interference, or channels for receiving and transmitting signals.

A feature that distinguishes Starline security systems is the possibility of self-diagnosis.

The car alarm monitors the state of the sensors and modes. If one of the system elements is damaged, the owner receives a corresponding message on the key fob or is reflected on the unit’s LED indicator. The instructions for using the Starline car alarm must contain information about the protection that the developers have provided for the system, since there will always be people who want to hack the alarm.

The following measures have been taken to protect against hacking:

  • the signal cannot be intercepted using dynamic code;
  • the alarm can be interrupted without disarming the vehicle;
  • the alarm signal has a limited number of cycles;
  • it is possible to save settings in case the power supply is turned off;
  • If an emergency shutdown is necessary, the alarm system has an individual access code.

Starline alarm key fobs are shock-resistant, ergonomically shaped and equipped with a unique interface in Russian. Some key fobs do not have an antenna, which makes them convenient and practical to use.

System capabilities

When choosing an alarm system, first of all, car enthusiasts pay attention to its capabilities. The set of functions for Starline alarms differs for different models. But what is common to all models is that the security system divides all cars into 9 protected zones, for each of which individual protection methods are established.

The car alarm has the following security functions:

  1. The engine is controlled using relays or StarLine DRR digital radio relays. The relay blocks the motor in case of unauthorized starting.
  2. The ignition switch is controlled.
  3. To protect the doors, hood and trunk, limit switches in the form of buttons are used.
  4. Impact sensors with two levels are provided for the body and windows.
  5. The interior is controlled by an additional sensor.
  6. The release of the parking brake is blocked.

The instructions for the Starline alarm indicate that it can notify the owner of a possible break-in and protect the car in various ways.

The following methods are possible:

  • the signal is transmitted to the key fob with feedback;
  • light and sound warning;
  • possibility to program;
  • possibility of safe locking simulating engine failure;
  • panic mode.

The alarm system is equipped with a processor that controls engine operation and the remote start process. The security system performs its functions automatically or is controlled via a key fob by pressing the appropriate buttons.

Instructions for use

You can install the Starline alarm yourself, but before doing so you should carefully study the operating instructions that come with it.

The instructions contain information on installation, configuration and operation of the security system. If you carry out the installation exactly according to the instructions, then there is a guarantee that the car alarm will be installed correctly.

How to install?

Before installation, you need to prepare the necessary tools:

  • set of wrenches;
  • screwdriver;
  • electric drill;
  • wire cutters;
  • soldering iron;
  • heat shrink caps;
  • tester for checking electrical wiring.

It is better not to use an indicator for testing, as it can damage the sensitive elements.

Installing an alarm consists of the following steps:

  1. Before installing the security system, you need to turn off the power supply to the car.
  2. First of all, you need to find the location of the main alarm elements. The control unit is usually placed in an inaccessible location, such as under the front seat or behind the instrument panel.
  3. The siren is installed in the engine compartment in a place protected from moisture. The antenna should be installed as high as possible so that it does not come into contact with metal parts and electrical wiring.
  4. The sensors should be installed in the passenger compartment to protect them from moisture. The impact sensor should be placed in the center of the vehicle so that the sensitivity can be adjusted to take into account influences from all directions. After installing the sensors, you need to connect them to the main module.
  5. The panic button is installed under the hood away from the engine compartment; there must be a distance of at least 50 cm from heat sources. One of the inaccessible places is the inner surface of the wing.
  6. The LED indicator should be placed on the center console. Its task is to warn potential burglars about what is on the machine.
  7. The switch, LED indicator and panic button must be connected in secure mode. After connecting power and grounding, the installation must be tested.
  8. After connecting all components, you need to check the functionality of the system.

If a false alarm is triggered during testing, then the sensors are highly sensitive. In this case, you need to change their sensitivity.

How to setup?

To enjoy all the benefits of a car alarm, you need to properly configure its autostart and learn how to control the car alarm using a remote control (RC). All operating details are described in the instructions that come with the device.

The remote control is a keychain; there are three possible types:

  • with feedback;
  • no feedback;
  • with feedback and LCD display.

All Starline alarm key fobs have three buttons. The system is controlled by pressing either a single button or a combination of two buttons in different sequences.

The buttons have the following main functions:

  1. Arming with the engine running or not, locking the doors, controlling the shock sensor, starting and shutting down the power unit.
  2. Disabling security, unlocking doors, disabling the immobilizer, disabling the alarm signal, the ability to program silent arming and disabling security, etc.
  3. The search mode starts, allowing you to monitor the condition of the car.

The instructions contain detailed information on how to use all the functions of the Starline alarm system by single, double button presses, as well as a combination of buttons (video author REALAUT0).

A useful feature, especially in winter, is autostart. In Starline security systems, two types of autostart are possible: automatic and remote. Using the remote control, you can warm up the engine before driving. With automatic starting, the engine can be started after a certain time, for example to maintain a constant temperature. You can configure automatic start based on temperature, for example, when it drops below a set value.

To properly configure remote autorun, the following conditions must be met:

  • the gears must be turned off, that is, the gearshift knob must be in the neutral position;
  • the hood and all doors must be closed;
  • the ignition must be turned off;
  • The car must be on the handbrake.

After closing the last door, the alarm will be activated. To remotely start, you need to press button No. 1 and hold it pressed for 3 seconds, then you need to press button No. 2. Next, the system will try to start the engine on its own. If after 4 attempts the engine does not start, a signal will be sent to the key fob and it will make four sounds. If the engine starts successfully, an image of the car will appear on the key fob screen, and it will emit 3 long beeps.

When you press the buttons, the system always reacts in a certain way: it either gives a light or sound signal, or blinks its dimensions, etc. This confirms that the commands have been executed.

Possible faults

To enhance security functions, a lot of electronics are used in the alarm system. As with any device, car alarms may have malfunctions that need to be resolved.

The most common faults:

  • Frequent false alarms: the sensitivity of the shock sensor is incorrectly configured;
  • does not unlock, there is no reaction to signals coming from the key fob: the key fob batteries are low or the battery is not charged enough;
  • The doors do not close when arming: the reasons may be either a malfunction of the car alarm or a malfunction of the door locks.

The key fob is the most vulnerable part of the alarm system. It may become unusable if dropped. If the case or LCD screen is damaged, you can do the repair yourself by purchasing the necessary spare parts. The most unpleasant malfunction is the breakdown of the central unit; this may require serious repairs at a car service center.

If any problems occur, troubleshooting should be done immediately, as the system contains a lot of electronics and can block the engine and fuel pump, and normal operation of the vehicle will be impossible.

Starline A8 system components

Technical characteristics of the Starline A8 car alarm

Main parameters of the A8 Twage:

  • operating frequency of the control system 433.92 MHz;
  • control radius using the main key fob - no more than 600 m;
  • pager operating radius - 1200 m (maximum);
  • operating radius of the additional remote control is at least 15 m;
  • current consumption in operating mode - no more than 25 mA;
  • the estimated service life, if all requirements are met, is at least 5 years.

When using a key fob, remember that the operating radius may be reduced due to interference of various natures (buildings, presence of sources of radio noise, weather phenomena).

All electrical circuits are protected by the car's standard fuses. Data on the maximum load on each chain is given in the table.

Advantages and disadvantages

Alarm owners note the following positive aspects:

  • large ranges of the main key fob and pager;
  • low price, as well as the presence of feedback and automatic engine start functions;
  • possibility of expanding options (installation of a roll sensor);
  • ability to work at different ambient temperatures.

The device also has many disadvantages:

  • fragile material of the key fob body, this is especially fraught at low air temperatures;
  • Often there is poor contact in the button modules of remote controls, which is why they need to be pressed with force or several times;
  • in severe frosts, graphics errors appear on the display, which make it difficult to work with the system;
  • no siren included;
  • if there is radio interference, the key fob signal is jammed and is not picked up by the antenna in the car;
  • the motor does not start according to the set time.

It should be noted that the system has been produced since 2003 and today many copies are already more than 7-8 years old. With such a long service life, wear of parts is inevitable, which is the reason for critical reviews.

User VOVAN 716 will tell you how to activate autostart using the Starline alarm system.

Installation instructions

You can install the A8 alarm yourself if you have a little experience in installing similar products.

The procedure is performed step by step as follows:

  1. Think over the location of the elements and begin installing the wiring. You may first need to disassemble the lower part of the instrument panel and remove the protective cover on the steering column. Before starting installation, you must purchase an additional siren, which comes with the bracket.
  2. Remove the wires from the battery terminals. If your car has airbags and a radio with a code, you must follow the instructions for the vehicle.
  3. Connect the system wires to the ignition switch circuits. The connection point must be soldered and insulated with heat shrink tubing or electrical tape.
  4. Connect the remaining power circuits in accordance with the diagram. When installing the system on used cars, it is recommended to call all the wires of the standard harnesses, since they may have been replaced during repairs.
  5. Connect to the instrument cluster harnesses. These channels receive a signal from the tachometer or from the handbrake warning lamp. Connection to the tachometer is required to receive a signal during autostart and is done with a wire with gray-black insulation. An alternative option may be to connect the wire to the generator (the operation of the motor is determined by the appearance of a voltage of plus 12 volts).
  6. Connect all other terminals of the central unit harness. When laying wires, you must ensure that they do not touch moving controls or rub against sharp edges of body panels.
  7. Connect to the control module of the standard central locking. If the vehicle has a pneumatic lock drive, the connection is made to the compressor control unit.
  8. Connect the wire to the brake lamp switch (on vehicles with manual transmission).
  9. Connect the wiring harnesses to the power trunk lid lock terminal (if present) and the interior lighting system.
  10. Connect the low beam headlight power supply circuit to the additional channel (if necessary). This function allows you to turn on the low beam when the system is deactivated and illuminate the road to the car.
  11. If the system is used in automatic mode, a bypass for the standard immobilizer should be installed.
  12. Install the main unit in the dashboard. It is attached to the frame using ties or metal screws. When installing, it is recommended to place the unit with the connectors facing down. You need to make sure that there is no water leaking inside the panel.
  13. Connect the service and anti-robbery button harnesses to the block and bring them to places convenient for the driver and invisible to strangers. For connection, two two-pin connectors are used under the hinged cover. The diode is output either to the top of the panel or to the rack casing.
  14. Mount the antenna module on the glass. To achieve maximum range, it is recommended to place it at a distance of at least 55 mm from metal frames. The module should not be located in the area of the air ducts of the microclimate system or in the area of direct sunlight. This is due to the presence of a temperature sensor in it, which, if the device is installed incorrectly, will show incorrect information. To connect the antenna, a cable with five contacts is used, which is placed on the main unit in the connector located under the hinged cover.
  15. The siren is attached to the engine shield and installed with the horn facing down. The installation site should not be flooded with water while the vehicle is moving or parked. It is important to check that there is no access to the siren itself and its wiring from under the car. The cable to the siren must be laid at a maximum distance from the elements of the ignition system. This rule applies to all alarm harnesses.
  16. Attach a sensor for measuring the impact force in the passenger compartment. It must be rigidly fixed to the metal panels, which will ensure its sensitivity. Adjustment is performed by rotating the built-in potentiometer. It must be remembered that when installing a part on plastic, the device may not operate correctly. A cable with four pins is used for connection.
  17. Place additional “limit switches” under the hood and trunk lids. The sensors must work correctly, otherwise they will cause the majority of false alarms in the system.
  18. Connect all elements with laid strands.
  19. Connect power to the on-board network and test the operation of the system. If everything works correctly, then you can install the removed interior trim elements and program the unit. In case of errors in operation, you will need to check the correct installation.

The advantage of installing an alarm system in a car service center will be saving time, since do-it-yourself installation can take more than one day.

User manual

The instructions for Starline A8 contain the following information:

  • description of components and technical data of components;
  • core capabilities;
  • control system;
  • description of functions;
  • function programming;
  • general installation recommendations;
  • connection diagrams;
  • warranty card.

Below is a brief description of some points that are important when using Starline A8.

Setting up autorun

To configure and perform autostart, you need to set the “neutral” mode:

  1. Stop the car, put the gearbox lever in neutral position.
  2. Raise the brake lever up.
  3. Remove the key from the lock and get out of the car, closing the door behind you.
  4. Turn on the system using the K1 or K1D button. The motor will stop and be ready to start automatically.

The main key fob is used to start the engine. The start-up procedure is possible through the icon on the screen or through a long press on K1. In this case, the car must give a triple signal with a siren and external lamps. After a successful launch, three more flashes are given and the melody in the key fob is turned on. During operation, an icon and the remaining time until deactivation are displayed on the screen. When attempting to start, the starter operating time increases.

In addition, it is possible to automatically start based on a signal from a temperature sensor. In this case, the operating time of the motor and the temperature threshold are programmed in the central unit.

There are four options for setting the response threshold:

  • 10ºС;
  • 20ºС;
  • 30ºС.

When setting up, you need to take into account that there are two restrictions on operation:

  • no more than six alarms are possible per day;
  • At least two hours must pass between two warm-ups.

You can watch the video from user DimASS about programming the Starline A8 key fob.

To program a temperature start via the main key fob, you must:

  1. Select the appropriate icon on the display and activate it by pressing the K2 button.
  2. Wait for confirmation (one siren sound, a melody from the key fob buzzer and a short flashing of external lamps). The screen will indicate the icon of the enabled function and the temperature at which the starter will operate. In this case, the LED on the car will blink in series of three short periods.
  3. If necessary, the function can be turned off using a similar scheme. Deactivation is confirmed by double signaling with sound and light devices.

When operating a vehicle, warm-up can be applied at a certain time; the setting is performed in the following steps:

  1. Select the daily start mode icon and confirm by pressing K2.
  2. The confirmation will be the same as when warming up by temperature. The difference will be the operation of the diode, which should blink in a series of two pulses, and another icon on the display.

During the programming process, you must be in the communication zone between the remote control and the car, since when the mode is activated, a start must occur. The warm-up time is specified in the unit settings. Each subsequent start will be performed after 24 hours until the mode is turned off or until the first unsuccessful start cycle. Disabling is done by placing the cursor on the icon and pressing K2 on the key fob.

If necessary, the motor operating time is extended by:

  • 20 minutes.

To do this, you need to select the corresponding symbol on the screen and activate it. The total operating time will be displayed on the key fob.

Troubleshooting

When the system is turned on, it automatically diagnoses the condition of components and circuits. If there are open doors, four warning lights and short beeps will be given. An icon of the problem unit will be displayed on the main key fob screen. After closing the element, it will be armed.

If it is impossible to quickly resolve the problem, the alarm bypasses this zone. If the breakdown is repaired spontaneously and the system is turned on, this zone is automatically armed.

The following problems may occur:

  1. Dead batteries in the key fob. You should try to control the system using another remote control from the kit. If the system works, then the power supply needs to be replaced. If the problem does not go away, this indicates that the failure is related to the antenna module or the main unit.
  2. If there are constant false alarms, it is necessary to adjust the sensitivity of the shock sensor.
  3. If the locks do not close after turning on the system, then the problem may be blown fuses. It is necessary to check the condition of the circuits (for short circuits) and replace the fuse-links with products of the same rating.
  4. Operational problems may be due to incorrect settings. The alarm can be reset to factory settings and reprogrammed.
  5. An automatically started engine stalls after a few seconds of operation. At the same time, the motor functions normally with the key. To correct the problem, you need to check the additional blocking relay (if it is used in the circuit), the wiring connected to the tachometer, and re-teach the idle mode.

Control key fobs

The alarm performs its functions either automatically or by signals from the key fob when buttons are pressed. Some of the provided functions and some alarm operating parameters can be changed by programming.

Alarms StarLineTwage A4, A2, A1 have various 3-button control key fobs. The purpose of buttons 1, 2 and 3 is the same for different control key fobs.

When the alarm executes a command sent from any key fob, the corresponding information is displayed on the indicator of other key fobs with feedback, provided that they are recorded in the alarm memory. The display of information is accompanied by sound signals and vibration. The luminescent backlight of the indicator in the LCD key fob turns on.

Key fob batteries and their replacement

Different key fobs use different batteries:

  • the key fob without feedback uses 1 element of type CR2032, ZV
  • The LED key fob uses 2 batteries type CR2032, ZV
  • The LCD key fob uses 1 AAA battery, 1.5V.

The operating time of the key fob batteries depends on: the frequency of use of the key fob, the frequency of operation of the pager, the selected alert mode, and the type of installed battery. The capacities of commercially available batteries may differ several times.

The average operating time of batteries can be:

  • for key fob without feedback from 9 to 12 months
  • for key fob with feedback and LED from 3 to 6 months
  • for key fob with feedback and LCD from 6 to 9 months

To increase the battery life of the LCD key fob, a special energy saving mode is provided, which turns on automatically 1 minute after the security mode is turned off. In this mode, the consumption of the key fob is reduced to a minimum by turning off the electrical circuit of the receiver.

Enabling the energy saving mode is accompanied by the disappearance of the icon from the LCD key fob indicator.

When the battery in the LCD key fob is discharged, an icon is displayed on the indicator, indicating the need to replace it.

Replacing batteries in key fobs with feedback is performed in the following order:
  1. Open the cover on the back of the key fob and remove the old battery.
  2. Install new batteries, observing polarity. The correct position of the battery is indicated on the key fob body under the cover. Close the key fob cover.
Replacing batteries in a key fob without feedback is performed in the following order:
