What engine does the Lada Vesta have? Lada Vesta: Photos, Videos, Reviews Lada Vesta what engine

The long-awaited new product in the Russian segment of budget cars - the Lada Vesta sedan - in its overall dimensions is on the border of B and C classes. The length of the car is 4410 mm, width – 1764 mm, height – 1497 mm, wheelbase – 2635 mm. Underbody clearance of 178 mm allows you to confidently move on roads with poor surfaces, be it asphalt riddled with holes or a country dirt road. In addition to high ground clearance, good geometric cross-country ability is ensured by fairly short overhangs: front – 860 mm, rear – 915 mm.

The Lada Vesta engine line includes several gasoline power plants. From the start of sales, the car is offered only with a 1.6-liter engine producing 106 hp. This four-cylinder unit with serial number 21129 is a Russian development and is installed on other AvtoVAZ models, for example, on the same Lada Granta liftback. Later, the sedan’s engine range will be replenished with H4M (1.6 liters, 110 hp) and 21179 (1.8 liters, 122 hp) engines. The first engine is provided by the Renault-Nissan alliance, the second is domestically developed.

The suspension of the Lada Vesta is arranged according to the classic design: MacPherson struts are installed in front, and a torsion beam is installed in the rear. The rack-and-pinion steering mechanism is equipped with an electric booster.

The luggage compartment of the car boasts a decent volume of 480 liters. It is also possible to tow an unbraked trailer weighing up to 450 kg. If the trailer has brake mechanisms, its weight should not exceed 900 kg.

Fuel consumption of a Lada Vesta with a 106-horsepower engine and manual transmission does not exceed 6.9 liters per 100 km. The modification with a robotic gearbox is more economical - on average it consumes 6.6 liters. In terms of dynamic characteristics, the manual version has an advantage, accelerating to “hundreds” in 11.2 seconds. A car with a “robot” is almost 3 seconds slower.

Surely all domestic car enthusiasts are interested in what kind of engine the Lada Vesta will have in its final configuration.

This question can presumably be answered in four ways. Let's take a look at the line that the automaker offers.

"Lada Vesta" in the VAZ-11189 configuration

This is the weakest of the presented units that the Lada Vesta will be equipped with. The engine here only needs to be compared with subsequent versions, and this characteristic will become clear. In fact, it is a modification of the VAZ-11186. The only difference between this engine is that it has different intake and exhaust valves. The remaining characteristics are similar to the old model.

Previously, the engine was already installed on the Grant and Priora models, coupled with a manual 5-speed gearbox. But, given the larger size of the Lada Vesta, it seems that these capabilities will be insufficient.

"Lada Vesta" in the VAZ-21129 configuration

This model is already of greater interest. It is 1.6 liters and the power reaches 106 horsepower. The result was achieved due to the number of valves: there are 16 of them versus the eight that the basic Lada Vesta is equipped with.

The engine will be precisely installed on the hatchback and the Classic trim, coupled with a manual gearbox. This version seems acceptable for Russian roads. But you just need to keep an eye on the timing belt, since if it breaks, the valves will quickly deteriorate. Another significant drawback here is noise, and over time, knocking may also be added to it.

"Lada Vesta" in the VAZ-21176 configuration

This modification will be the most powerful and productive of all four, despite the fact that it is not the most expensive. Most likely, the engine will be installed on the sports version, long-awaited for many car enthusiasts, and perhaps it will also be included in the “Lux” package. This Lada Vesta will have an engine capacity of 1.8 liters (in the improved assembly 21179).

They say that the engine will come with a robotic five-speed automatic transmission.

This power unit already inspires confidence. The engine power here is 122 horsepower, but with additional improvements they can be increased even in the factory version.

Of course, power will also lead to higher fuel consumption. But it’s unlikely that this fact has ever stopped fans of cool driving.

"Lada Vesta" in the configuration of the imported HR16DE-H4M

This motor is the most expensive in the line due to the fact that it is imported. This engine is installed on many Nissan cars.

Installed on our Lada Vesta car, the Nissan engine will have the following technical characteristics: the engine capacity is 1.6 liters, but it has 114 horsepower, which is a very good indicator. Therefore, he will be able to make even a heavy Lada mobile and fast. Both city dwellers and drivers who often travel along country roads will not be able to help but note these positive characteristics.

Moreover, it is really reliable. Experts assure that its working life will exceed by more than one and a half times the usual VAZ units with the same engine capacity.

Therefore, it is worth taking a closer look at it too. Indeed, from the point of view of practicality, perhaps it will pay off compared to other, cheaper modifications.

It is planned to install such an engine on a coupe body. Then the Lada Vesta will become expressive and even sporty. The engine, whose characteristics are largely similar to the younger versions, is thus capable of outperforming them.

Lada Vesta made its debut in the domestic automotive arena in 2015. The manufacturer had high expectations for the new model: Vesta was supposed to completely change the idea of the Russian automobile industry. Today we can say that AvtoVAZ engineers coped with their task. A car with a different design from previous models has become competitive.

The popularity of the car is growing, as evidenced by the fact that only in the first month of 2018, Lada Vesta surpassed its competitors in sales volume. Before buying a car, it will not be superfluous to find out what the service life of the Lada Vesta 1.6, 1.8 engine is.

Powertrain options

The car was initially equipped with three different power units: two engines with a displacement of 1.6 liters and one 1.8 liter. The AvtoVAZ plant designed the so-called 27th and 29th engines, or their full markings - 21127 and 21129. The first one had to be abandoned over time. The VAZ-21127 engine had a long service life and good technical characteristics, but its non-compliance with Euro-4 standards forced AvtoVAZ engineers to look for a way out of this situation. The solution was found in the following - to bring environmental performance to perfection by modernizing the engine.

The difference between these two power units is as follows:

  • The compression ratio was reduced from 11.0 to 10.45 in the 29th engine;
  • The control unit controller received new firmware with a completely different algorithm;
  • The exhaust and resonance starting system has undergone modernization;
  • The parts of the connecting rod and piston group have been lightened.

The new engine has joined the ranks of 16-valve engines. In general, the manufacturer managed to technically improve the Lada Vesta engine without changing the displacement or loss of power. You can also find a modification with a Nissan HR16 DE power unit under the hood. It was designed with the help of foreign engineers. The Nissan engine works effortlessly on both the AI-92 and AI-95. At the same time, the internal combustion engine was equipped with a chain instead of a timing belt, which allowed it to outperform its counterpart somewhat in terms of actual service life.

How long does the engine run on the Lada Vesta?

According to the manufacturer, the service life of the VAZ-21127 engine is more than 200 thousand km. In fact, the engine can go much further without any hassle. The car owner’s tasks include timely oil changes, refueling with high-quality fuel, and periodically checking the belt tension. The VAZ-21129 modification, thanks to its more advanced and simplified design, has a longer service life - 250 thousand km. The motor is equipped with hydraulic compensators, so there is no need to “adjust” the valves.

The 1.8-liter Nissan engine received a larger piston, a larger crank radius, and more economical oil channels. Also, the absence of a timing belt and the presence of a chain contributes to the service life of the Lada Vesta engine. The imported assembly serves uninterruptedly for about 280 thousand km, allowing the owner to save on replacing consumables. This engine modification allows for modernization and tuning. The owner of a Lada Vesta can equip his car with LPG.

Real indicators based on reviews from car owners

The standard 1.6-liter engine is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission and a robot. The quality of the transmission as a whole does not cause any complaints from owners. Also, drivers often wonder what kind of gasoline is best to fill in the Lada Vesta? The manufacturer recommends refueling only with 95-octane gasoline; this information can be found in the vehicle documentation. This is important to take into account, because the nominal resource was determined taking into account many indicators, in particular, taking into account the octane number of the fuel.

Motor 1.6

  1. Egor, Moscow. I've been driving Vesta since 2016, 1.6 engine, current mileage is 25 thousand km. When buying a domestic car, I was, of course, interested in the resource of the main power unit. The dealership assured that Vesta can cover more than 200 thousand km without problems. So far I have not had any problems with any breakdowns. I change the oil on time and fill up with AI-95 gasoline. A friend’s VAZ-2109 has driven about 400 thousand, so I think that the lifespan of the car depends on the owner himself.
  2. Maxim, Rostov. I purchased a Lada Vesta 1.6 in 2015 and have already covered about 50 thousand km. In my opinion, it turned out to be a great car. AvtoVAZ has really reached a new level, producing cars of European level. The engine runs like a clock, I use Lukoil Lux 5W40 oil. I think that the real life of the engine before major overhaul is about 250 thousand.
  3. Gennady, Voronezh. Before switching to Lada Vesta, I spent a lot of time driving a VAZ-21099. I spent 200 thousand and then carried out the first major overhaul. I have no doubts about the quality of our engines. On the same KIA Rio, the manufacturer assured the same mileage as on the Vesta. I’m almost sure that our car is in no way inferior to the “Korean” in terms of power unit reliability.

The service life of the VAZ-21129 engine is about 200-250 thousand km, after which further operation of the power unit is possible only if the driver devotes the proper amount of time to the car, undergoes scheduled maintenance, and carries out timely replacement of engine oil and air filters.

Motor 1.8

  1. Yuri, Ekaterinburg. I've been driving a Lada Vesta 1.8 for two years now. What can I say about the car, I don’t particularly like the interior, they could have done better, but the build quality of the engine is at an acceptable level. It works quieter than the “Korean” one; the robot sometimes “thinks” for too long, but not critically. Generally speaking, for two years the car has not caused me any trouble. There is no doubt about the resource that over 200,000 km. I myself saw the “nine”, which traveled more than 400,000 km.
  2. Stanislav, Astrakhan. I try not to turn the engine over 3000 rpm, I drive calmly. Driving the West I relax and have fun. A revolutionary domestic car, nothing less. It remains to live until the overhaul. After 20,000 miles, I changed the oil and filled it with Lukoil, which is recommended by AvtoVAZ. 200,000 will pass without any problems, there’s no doubt about it. Those who have problems with domestic engines need to devote more time to their car.
  3. Maxim, Moscow. I have already covered 12,000 km on a 2016 Lada Vesta 1.8. At the turn of the first thousand mileage, the “Check Engine” light came on, I went to the service center, they looked at it, and they said there was a problem with the ignition system. It turned out later that he had filled up with low-quality gasoline. Now I try to fill only AI-95. Although this engine is “friendly” with the 92, I don’t want to take any more risks. In general, the car is worthy of its money, it will cover 200,000 km, and then we’ll see.

The manufacturer has assured the resource for this power unit to be 200,000 km, but in reality it can last much longer. The service life depends on the quality of the fuel and engine oil used.

The Lada-Vesta, whose engine is available in several variations, is a dynamic sedan with good performance. Two power plants are from domestic manufacturers (VAZ-21129 and 21179). The third modification was designed by foreign partners and was named “Nissan HR16 DE”. In the latter version, a chain is installed instead of a timing belt, and there are a number of technical differences, including an increased volume - 1.8 liters. There are also some modified developments. Let's consider the positive and negative sides of all units, as well as their features.

VAZ-11189 engine and its parameters

This is the simplest and most inexpensive engine. Lada Vesta 1.6 was equipped with the engine in several trial versions. In fact, the unit is a modified version of the predecessor VAZ-11186, has a modified intake and exhaust, and complies with the Euro-4 standard. The motor is characterized by good traction and dynamic performance at different speeds.

Main characteristics:

  • working volume - 1.6 l;
  • power indicator - 87 horsepower;
  • cylinders - four in-line;
  • compression - 11;
  • piston stroke - 75.6 millimeters.

However, taking into account the fact that the Vesta model is somewhat heavier than previous domestically produced cars, the designers decided to abandon this engine. Presumably, it was supposed to be coupled with a French JHQ manual gearbox. Recently, an installation with a capacity of eighty-five horsepower has been used on the Polo sedan car, and quite successfully.

Model 21127/21129

The first production samples of the Lada-Vesta car have an engine of this particular modification. The engine, compared to its predecessors, has become more economical, more productive, and received a new suspension and exhaust system.

Options:

  • working volume - 1596 cubic centimeters;
  • power - 106 “horses”;
  • torque - 4,000 N;
  • four cylinders - in-line;
  • compliance with the environmental class “Euro-4” with a compression ratio of 11.

The motor in question is also mounted on Priora, Granta and the updated Kalina. It has a belt drive, the ability to boost allows you to achieve a power of about one hundred and fifty horsepower, and with a compressor and turbine - another 2.5 times more.

Comparative characteristics of engines 21129 with manual and automatic transmissions

Depending on which engine is installed on the Lada-Vest (with automatic transmission or manual transmission), its parameters, which are shown in the comparison table, will also differ.

"Lada-Vesta" with a 1.8 engine

The power plant of the VAZ 21176 is made on the basis of the cylinder block of the unit under the symbol 21126. The piston stroke is increased to 84 millimeters, the compression ratio is reduced to 10.5. The structure of the cooling channels has changed, and the sizes of the valve plates have increased. The inlet is equipped with an INA type phase return. The engine is combined with an automated gearbox VAZ-2180.

Technical plan indicators:

  • working volume - 1,800 cubic centimeters;
  • power indicator - one hundred twenty-two horsepower;
  • speed - 5,200 rotations per minute;
  • power supply - distributed injection system;
  • cylinders - four pieces arranged in a row;
  • compression ratio - 9.8-10.5;
  • environmental standard - Euro-4;
  • fuel - AI-95 gasoline.

The Lada-Vesta car will receive an engine of this type in the “Cross” and the new “sedan” variations.

Description of the HR16 DE motor

In its imported version, the power plant from Renault-Nissan has a power of one hundred and seventeen horsepower. The engine is mounted on various vehicles, and since 2015 it has also been equipped at the VAZ plant. The engine is unpretentious in terms of fuel quality; instead of a timing belt, it is equipped with a chain drive.

In addition, the unit includes a modified gas distribution system, an electronic throttle valve, and a phase shifter. At the same time, there are no hydraulic compensators, which requires adjusting the gaps every 85-95 thousand kilometers. Otherwise, extraneous noise and knocking will appear.

Power plant parameters HR16 DE

Let's consider the indicators that the improved Lada-Vesta has. Engines (technical data) type HR 16:

  • working volume - 1597 cubic centimeters;
  • power parameters - 111-117 horsepower;
  • maximum speed - six thousand rotations per minute;
  • power unit - distributed injection;
  • cylinders - four pieces with 4 valves, in an in-line arrangement;
  • the cylinder size is 76 mm in diameter with a piston stroke of 88 mm;
  • ecology - Euro-5 class.

The motor is combined exclusively with a French-made mechanical transmission equipped with a CVT.

Peculiarities

The designers are planning other options for completing the power unit. The Lada Vesta car, the engine of which is equipped with a special groove for the gas valve, which allows it to be converted to a similar fuel, is easy to convert to a new engine. Considering the cost-effectiveness and price fluctuations in the oil market, this solution is very promising.

The fuel tank hatch is slightly enlarged. It is also designed for a dual-fuel system (gasoline plus methane). Imported power units, thanks to chain transmission, are more reliable. Therefore, they are recommended to be installed when switching to gas.

What engine is installed on the Lada Vesta in 2017?

The main intrigue is how Vesta will behave with a 1.8-liter engine and a manual transmission. Judging by the available information, the acceleration of the car from zero to one hundred kilometers will be just over ten seconds. At the same time, the maximum speed is predicted to be within 190 km/h. It turns out that the manual transmission is faster by a couple of seconds than the automated version.

Fuel consumption is expected to be about seven and a half liters per hundred kilometers in mixed mode. For the new engine, Togliatti engineers developed a special version of the five-speed gearbox called VAZ-21807. The transmission unit and the main clutch pair have also undergone modernization. The advantages include a significant reduction in noise during operation of the new box compared to previous units. It is worth noting that the closest competitor, Lada X-Ray, has a different mechanical gear shift mechanism. There is a gearbox from Renault JR-5 with increased clutch dimensions up to 215 millimeters.

But the dilemma is which engine for the Lada Vesta is better, 1.6 or 1.8. In this case, it is worth taking a closer look at their components and understanding which engine will be the better choice in which situation.

Let's compare technical specifications

If we compare the technical characteristics of these two engines, then in terms of choice, the advantage will be on the side of the 1.8 liter engine (model 21179): 122 horsepower versus 106 for the 1.6 liter (model 21129), acceleration to 100 km/h in 12.1 s (for the “rival” "for 12.8), the maximum speed that a car can develop is 188 km/h for a 1.8-liter engine, 178 for a 1.6-liter engine. Thus, if you are more interested in quality characteristics, then you should definitely pay attention to the first option engine. However, on the other hand, it turned out to be less practical in terms of savings.

  • Lukoil;
  • Rosneft.

The plant calls foreign manufacturers an alternative oil for Vesta with the characteristic 5w30:

  • Mobil (5w40 is also allowed, and for new cars 0w40);
  • Motul Specific DEXO s2;
  • Shell HELIX HX8.

It is precisely with its lower power and volume that the 1.6-liter engine turned out to be a more economical option, because its fuel consumption is slightly lower than that of its opponent: 9.3 liters - in the city; 5.5 – on the highway; 6.9 – in mixed mode (versus 10.2/6.5/7.5 for the 1.8-liter, respectively).

Now let’s move on from dry and boring numbers to a more lively “interior”. As for the drive, there are as many as three options: the larger engine has a timing belt from the German company INA (and as you know, there is no doubt about the quality of German products), the standard 1.6-liter power unit has a regular timing belt, but There is also a similar engine from the Nissan concern H4M (with a power of 110 hp, many sources indicate 114 hp, but this is incorrect), on which a chain is already installed.

In the latter case, we can talk about the “golden mean” between quality and efficiency. Although, in the case of the practicality of the drive, the Nissan engine “jumped ahead” of both of its brothers - here you can save on consumables (the chain is, however, more expensive, but it lasts much longer, there is no possibility of bending the valves).

Perspective

It should be noted that the power unit from the Nissan concern is superior to our domestic engines both in many quality and technical characteristics and in terms of efficiency (more reliable, more durable and uses less oil). Surely, not everyone needs exactly record numbers from a car and its engine - most car owners are looking for the most advantageous combination of reliability, practicality and efficiency, and therefore in this case it is worth paying attention to one with a Nissan engine.

But there is one thing, the installation of the imported H4M engine has been postponed indefinitely, apparently due to the rise in price of the model and, as a consequence, the recoupment of such an upgrade is not profitable.

There is good news, on October 20, 2017, information was received that AvtoVAZ is testing another engine on the Lada Vesta, this is a 1.4-liter gasoline turbo engine from Renault and 150 hp, we’ll find out how this will end a little later.

But in order not to further mislead the public, it is necessary to mention in a few words the combination of these engines with various types of transmissions. So, the 1.8-liter engine is installed on all three types of gearboxes used in Vesta: robotic, mechanical and. A conventional domestic 1.6-liter power unit is combined with a robot and mechanics. The Nissan engine is also installed on all three types of gearboxes. As most car owners understand, a car cannot develop its full engine potential with a robotic gearbox. But the choice of gearbox remains beyond the scope of this article; among the engines, it is worth noting the 1.6-liter Nissan concern due to its higher reliability and efficiency.

Today, dealers offer only 4 options:
— 1.6l 106 hp with 5MT and 5st.AMT gearbox
— 1.8l 122 hp with 5MT and 5st.AMT gearbox
